There was a minor hiccup with check-in; it’s self-service via a lockbox, which is fine, but the instructions were a tad vague if you’re arriving jet-lagged – nothing a quick message to the host couldn’t fix, though. And yeah, during peak hours, you might catch some noise from the nearby Marvel Stadium if there’s a footy game on, but it’s not intrusive, more like background energy that reminds you you’re in vibrant Melbourne. I stayed in summer, and it was perfect for beating the heat – air con works a treat, and it’s far enough from the tourist throngs in Federation Square that you get some peace.

All in all, if you’re after a spot that’s practical for a family or a couple (those two bedrooms sleep four comfortably, with actual space to spread out), this one’s a winner.     Good location, if you like the sound of rail yards.

    What could be improved: Very noisy – overlooking railyards and the people who like to hang out under railway bridges. I’m not a fan of crumpled linen personally, no tea towels, and the cleaner came into the apartment before we had checked out!
