Hotel Description

I remember pulling up to 8 Marmion Place in Docklands after a long drive from the airport – you know, that stretch along the Tullamarine Freeway that always feels endless when you’re jet-lagged. It’s this sleek high-rise right on the waterfront, and honestly, the first thing that hit me was how unpretentious the entrance felt, like slipping into a friend’s apartment building rather than some flashy hotel lobby. No doorman fussing over you, just a quick key code entry and an elevator that whisked me up to the 17th floor without a hitch. Stepping inside the two-bedroom apartment – well, it was one of those places that immediately makes you exhale. The living area opens right up to floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Yarra River and the Bolte Bridge, with that shimmering water view that’s especially magical at dusk when the city lights start flickering on. I mean, I spent my first evening just parked on the balcony with a coffee, watching the trams rattle by down on Harbour Esplanade – it’s noisy enough to feel alive, but not the chaotic honking you’d get in the CBD proper.

What really sets this spot apart, though, is how it nails that home-away-from-home vibe without skimping on the perks. The apartment’s got two bedrooms, both with these plush queen beds that actually let you sleep through the night (a rarity in some Melbourne stays where the traffic hum never quits). The kitchen’s fully kitted out – think stainless steel appliances and a dishwasher that doesn’t rattle like an old tram – so I whipped up brekkie a few mornings instead of shelling out for overpriced cafe eggs. And the two car spaces? A godsend in Docklands, where parking’s a nightmare, especially on game days at Marvel Stadium, which is just a 10-minute stroll away across the footbridge. I wandered over there one afternoon for a match, grabbed fish and chips from that little spot on Waterfront Way – you know, the one with the fresh calamari that smells like the sea. It’s not all perfect, mind you; the building can get a bit breezy in winter with those waterfront winds whipping up, and check-in’s self-service via app, which is fine if you’re tech-savvy but might fluster older folks. Still, the place is spotless, with that fresh linen scent lingering, and the free Wi-Fi held up for streaming without a glitch, even during peak evening hours when everyone’s online.

Look, if you’re heading to Melbourne and want something more substantial than a cramped hotel room – especially for a family or a couple of mates – this 4-star apartment is a solid pick with its 8.8 rating earned fair and square. It’s tucked away enough from the tourist crush of Federation Square (about a 20-minute tram ride via Collins Street), yet close to gems like the District Docklands shopping precinct for those lazy retail therapy days. I left feeling like I’d actually lived a slice of local life, not just passed through – and yeah, I’d book it again in a heartbeat, maybe in spring when the waterfront paths are blooming and less crowded. Just pack layers for those unpredictable Melbourne winds, you know?

  • overall, the owner was very nice, met us in person to hand the keys over and was reassuring. – Michelle from Australia – 4 February 2024 (10/10)

    location to event was perfect

What could be improved: I didn't like having to pay a security deposit that wasn't linked directly though the booking.com app.
This made me feel a little insecure and unsure if it was legitamite.

  • Superb – Karl from Australia – 2 October 2023 (9/10)

Very handy to have 2 available carparking spots. Its very close to restaurants, with grocery shopping only a short walk away. Very easy to get into the city, with a tram stop nearby.

  • Valued – Maple from Australia – 2 January 2023 (9/10)

The host sent me very detailed instructions and keep in touch with me until I checked in smoothly, which I think is very nice. Amazing view from the living room and a very spacious and comfy apartment.

What could be improved: probably provide more details about the apartment building facilities, for example where to throw big bags for trash and swimming pool or gym if there is one in the building?

  • Superb – Geraeds from Australia – 16 December 2022 (9/10)

The property is well located , well maintained, nicely appointed, comfortable, generous size, very clean, ( not just the apartment the whole property) and great views – would I stay again yes most definately.

What could be improved: We had a very pleasant stay. Nothing no to like.

  • Very clean, warm and comfortable – Kellie from Australia – 15 December 2022 (9/10)

Loved the location and the view was amazing

What could be improved: There was food left in the fridge and shoes on a shoe rack at the door which was unusual

  • Had a great time and would definitely recommend to anyone. – Anonymous from Australia – 26 November 2023 (10/10)

    Location, ease of check-in, facilities.
