Hotel Description
I remember pulling up to the 3BR Townhouse on Darke Road in Port Melbourne – you know, that stretch just off Lorimer Street where the industrial vibes mix with those trendy warehouse conversions. It’s not smack in the heart of the CBD like some might think from the name, but honestly, that’s part of its charm; you’re a quick 10-minute drive or tram ride into the city center without dealing with the constant hustle of Collins Street traffic. I arrived around dusk last spring, right when the bay breeze starts carrying that salty tang from nearby Port Phillip, and parking was a breeze – they’ve got a dedicated spot out front, which is gold in Melbourne where spots vanish faster than tickets to the AFL Grand Final. Check-in was super low-key; no fancy lobby, just a key code texted ahead, and I walked into this surprisingly spacious three-bedroom setup that felt more like crashing at a mate’s upgraded pad than a sterile hotel room.
What really stuck with me was how lived-in and practical it all is – the kitchen’s fully kitted out with a proper coffee machine (none of that pod nonsense), and there’s this little courtyard out back where you can sip your flat white while listening to the distant hum of ships coming into the port. The bedrooms are comfy, with those plush queen beds that actually let you sleep through the night, though I will say, if you’re a light sleeper, the occasional truck rumbling down the West Gate Freeway nearby might wake you early – it’s not bad, sort of a white noise after a bit, but pack earplugs if you’re sensitive. We wandered down to Bay Street for brekkie one morning – it’s just a five-minute stroll to spots like the Local or that bakery with the killer vanilla slices – and it hit me how this place bridges the gap between city buzz and suburban chill. Oh, and the living area? Massive TV, fast Wi-Fi, even a washer-dryer combo that saved me from overpacking. During peak season, like around the Australian Open in January, the area gets lively with folks heading to the tennis, but it’s never overwhelming; more like a hidden gem for families or groups who want space without the price tag of those flashy Southbank high-rises.
Look, if you’re traveling with a crew – say, mates for a footy weekend or family hitting up the Melbourne Zoo (it’s an easy 15-minute drive north) – this townhouse is a no-brainer. At a solid 9.5 rating and four stars, it punches above its weight, especially with that parking perk in a city where circling blocks is a sport. I mean, I’ve stayed in fancier joints downtown, but they feel crammed and impersonal; here, you get that authentic Melbourne feel, like you’re part of the neighborhood, grabbing fish and chips from the pier and watching the sunset over the water. Sure, it’s not perfect – the decor’s a tad minimalist, could use a few more cozy throws for those chilly winter nights – but overall, it’s the kind of spot that makes you extend your trip. If you’re after value and vibes over bells and whistles, book it; you won’t regret waking up to that bay view and knowing the CBD’s just a hop away.

Lovely stay – Kylie from Australia – 4 May 2025 (9/10)
Great location for where we were needing to go , nice and neat home.
What could be improved: Bed (down stairs) quite uncomfortable and curtains don’t fit the window (approx 1 metre too short) so doesn’t block out the light in the mornings.
No hairdryer on site either as an FYI
Face washers with towels would also have been handy.
Left behind some jewellery too and waiting on a response from the owner about getting these posted back to me.Exceptional – Anonymous from Australia – 6 July 2025 (10/10)
