A Modern & Cozy 2BR Apartment with City Views
I remember pulling up to 500 Elizabeth Street in Melbourne's bustling CBD – you know, that stretch where the trams clang by every few minutes and the air smells like fresh coffee from those hole-in-the-wall cafes down toward Queen Victoria Market.
I remember pulling up to 500 Elizabeth Street in Melbourne’s bustling CBD – you know, that stretch where the trams clang by every few minutes and the air smells like fresh coffee from those hole-in-the-wall cafes down toward Queen Victoria Market. It’s not some fancy high-rise hotel; this is A Modern & Cozy 2BR Apartment with City Views, and honestly, it felt more like crashing at a friend’s stylish pad than checking into a sterile room. I arrived mid-afternoon during peak hour – well, Melbourne’s version of it, with office workers spilling out onto the sidewalks – and the check-in was a breeze, just a quick code entry at the door, no front desk drama. Parking? A bit of a hassle if you’re driving; I ended up circling for 10 minutes before snagging a spot in one of those underground lots nearby (pro tip: aim for the ones off Lonsdale Street to save a few bucks). But once inside, that initial city chaos melted away – the place is on a higher floor, so the hum of Elizabeth Street traffic turns into a distant buzz, especially at night when things quiet down after 10 PM or so.
What really sold me was how it balances that modern edge with actual coziness – I mean, the living room has these plush gray couches that you sink into after a day wandering the laneways (think Hosier Lane’s street art, just a 15-minute stroll away). The kitchen’s fully kitted out with shiny appliances and even a Nespresso machine – I brewed up a flat white every morning, pretending I was a local. And those city views? They’re legit, especially from the balcony at sunset when the skyline lights up over toward the Yarra River. It’s a two-bedroom setup, so if you’re traveling with mates or family, there’s space without feeling crammed; one room has a queen bed with super-soft linens that smell faintly of lavender (they must use some fancy detergent), and the other a couple of singles. The bathroom’s got that rainfall shower head – refreshing after sweating it out in Melbourne’s unpredictable weather, which, let’s be real, can flip from sunny to drizzly in an hour. Oh, and there’s decent Wi-Fi, but it did lag a bit during evenings when everyone’s streaming – nothing major, just a heads-up if you’re working remotely. Sensory-wise, it’s all clean lines and warm wood tones, with the faint scent of eucalyptus from the air freshener, making it feel authentically Aussie.
All in all, I’d rate this spot an 8 out of 10, like the official score suggests – it’s got that four-star vibe without trying too hard, perfect for a weekend getaway or even a longer stay if you’re exploring beyond the CBD, maybe hopping a tram to Fitzroy for vintage shops. The only minor gripe? It can get a tad noisy from construction nearby during weekdays (Melbourne’s always building something), so if you’re a light sleeper, pack earplugs or book for quieter seasons like winter when the city’s a bit more subdued. But honestly, for the price and location – steps from the market’s fresh produce stalls or a quick walk to Lygon Street’s pasta joints – it’s a gem that makes you feel like you’ve got your own slice of Melbourne life. If you’re after something homey with views that beat staring at a blank wall, this is it; I left wishing I could’ve extended my stay.
Melbourne hotels keep food lovers close to Queen Victoria Market, hidden cocktail dens, and rooftop beer gardens.

What Our Guests Say
Great location to stay, handy to public transport Great location with Trams at the front door, and a short walk to the Melbourne Central train station. A busy, vibrant part of the city with the Victoria Market nearby
What could be improved: Beds were not the most comfortable, one was a shorter bed so feet overhang the end, the other had a timber end at the foot of the bed that overhanged the bed, lots of swear words each time we smacked our legs going past
Fine for our needs Good location
What could be improved: Waste chute permanently blocked
