A Spacious & Lux Apt for 5 Next to Southern Cross Overview

You know, when I first rolled up to A Spacious & Lux Apt for 5 on Spencer Street – right there at 250, smack in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD – I was honestly relieved after that long flight in. I’d hopped off the SkyBus at Southern Cross Station, which is literally next door, and it took me all of two minutes to drag my suitcase over. No messing around with taxis or getting lost in the grid; it’s that straightforward. The building itself has this modern vibe, all glass and steel, blending right into the bustle of the area – you can hear the trams clanging along Spencer and the occasional train rumble from the station, but hey, that’s city living for you. Check-in was a breeze, actually; it’s one of those self-service deals with a code they email you, which worked fine even though I arrived a bit early around lunchtime. Inside, the place opens up into this surprisingly roomy setup – we’re talking two bedrooms with plush queen beds (one’s got an extra single for that fifth person), and a living area that doesn’t feel crammed at all. I mean, for a group or family, it’s a godsend; we spread out, cooked up some pasta in the full kitchen – stainless steel everything, even a dishwasher – and didn’t step on each other’s toes.

What really sold me, though, was how it feels like a proper home base without skimping on the luxuries. The bathrooms are spotless, with those rainfall showers that make you linger a bit too long, and there’s a washer-dryer combo that saved me from overpacking – especially handy in Melbourne’s fickle weather, you know, when a sudden rain hits and your jeans are soaked from wandering down to the Queen Victoria Market (just a 10-minute stroll north on Elizabeth Street). Views from the balcony overlook the street action, which can get noisy during peak hours – think morning commuters and the occasional siren from nearby Flinders Lane – but it quiets down nicely after dark, and the double-glazed windows help muffle it. Honestly, it’s not perfect; the Wi-Fi dipped a couple times during my stay, probably from all the high-rises around, but nothing a quick reset didn’t fix. We grabbed coffees from the little laneway spots off Little Bourke Street, which is a short walk east, and popped over to Docklands for dinner one night – easy peasy on the free tram zone. Sensory-wise, it’s got that fresh, linen-scented cleanliness when you walk in, and the air-con hums softly, keeping things cool even in summer’s humidity.

All in all, if you’re eyeing Melbourne for a trip – say, during the Aussie Open in January when the city’s buzzing, or just a quiet winter getaway – this spot’s a smart pick for up to five without breaking the bank. At 4 stars and an 8.2 rating, it delivers on the promise of space and comfort, right where you want to be: steps from the station for day trips to the Yarra Valley, or a quick jaunt to Collins Street’s shops. Sure, parking’s a hassle if you’re driving (street spots are metered and scarce), but with public transport at your doorstep, who needs it? I’d go back in a heartbeat – well, maybe book a higher floor next time to dodge some of that street-level vibe.

Fantastic location for event at Marvel. Great location for DFO shopping too. Very compact. Balcony. Walking distance to fab and wide variety of restaurants

  • Karizza from Australia (8/10)

It was modern and clean. Enough space for 4 people to sleep. It was also a good location near Southern Cross Station. Though if you’re there for the tennis, note that the tram schedule changes and the tram doesn’t go all the way to the stop in front of the bldg.
