I remember pulling up to Absolute Collins Apartments on Collins Street – you know, that iconic stretch in Melbourne's CBD where the trams clang by every few minutes and the air smells like fresh coffee from those little laneway spots like Degraves Street just a block over.
I remember pulling up to Absolute Collins Apartments on Collins Street – you know, that iconic stretch in Melbourne’s CBD where the trams clang by every few minutes and the air smells like fresh coffee from those little laneway spots like Degraves Street just a block over. It was mid-afternoon in spring, and honestly, the place felt like a smart hideaway amid the bustle; not some flashy high-rise, but this sleek, modern building at 233 Collins that blends right in with the heritage facades around it. Check-in was a breeze – the staff were these laid-back Aussies who handed over the keycard with a quick chat about the best nearby eats (pro tip: skip the tourist traps and hit up Hardware Lane for some proper Italian). My apartment – well, it was more like a mini home base, with a full kitchenette that came in handy for whipping up brekkie from the Queen Victoria Market goodies I’d grabbed earlier. The bed was plush, sheets crisp and cool, and the view out over the street had that classic Melbourne mix of old architecture and shiny new vibes. Oh, and the Wi-Fi? Lightning fast, which saved me when I needed to sort out tram timetables on the fly.
What really sold me on Absolute Collins, though, was how it nailed that balance of convenience without feeling cookie-cutter. You’re literally steps from Bourke Street Mall for shopping sprees – I mean, if you’re into H&M or those indie boutiques – and Federation Square is a quick stroll away for catching a gig or just people-watching by the Yarra. I spent one evening wandering back from there, dodging the after-work crowd, and appreciated how the apartments’ soundproofing kept the street noise to a dull hum at night; it gets quieter after 10 PM, even on weekends, which is a godsend in the city center. The place has a small gym and laundry facilities downstairs – nothing extravagant, but practical for longer stays, like when I extended my trip to catch the Australian Open buzz in January (book early, it gets packed). Sure, parking’s a bit of a hassle if you’re driving – CBD spots are gold dust, so I ditched the car at a nearby multi-story on Little Collins and walked everywhere. And yeah, the bathroom was spotless but the shower pressure could be punchier – minor gripe, but hey, it’s not a five-star spa. Still, for a 4-star setup with an 8.9 rating, it felt authentic, like staying in a friend’s stylish pad rather than a sterile hotel room.
All in all, if you’re heading to Melbourne and want a spot that puts you in the heart of it without breaking the bank – think couples exploring the laneways or solo travelers like me who need space to unwind – Absolute Collins is a solid pick. It’s got that effortless cool factor, you know? I’ve stayed in fancier places, but this one left me actually excited to return, maybe during the quieter winter months when the city’s fog rolls in and everything feels a tad more intimate. Just pack light; the elevators are speedy, but the stairs are there if you fancy burning off those flat white calories.
Hotels in Melbourne line Federation Square, riverside promenades, and tram-linked neighborhoods buzzing with live music.

What Our Guests Say
Exceptional The location was perfect as we attended a stage performance at The Regent Theatre in Collins Street, Melbourne. A 3 minute walk. Leo was extremely helpful, the apartment was modern, clean, tidy and quiet. Excellent.
Great stay at Centre Collins Great location yet very quiet, clean, well connected to transport, and good vibes. Staff was very helpful and flexible in granting our early check-ins, and to extend our stay. Bedrooms had only indirect daylight which was not a problem for us, but something to keep in mind. Living room/kitchen has great daylight and balcony and all amenities needes for a pleasant stay.
Perfect for a week away! Location was awesome, right beside the trams. No front counter or signage so we needed to ring the owner to meet us when we arrived but he met us straight away and let us check in early. Showed us how everything worked and was available throughout our stay if we had any questions. Apartment was awesome and had everything we needed. Even phone chargers on every room!
What could be improved: No where to store our bags as we had a late flight. Beds were hard but after full days in the city we still slept pretty well.
Awesome! Everything! It has all the amenities and the location is great. Leo was very nice and communicative - if he can't accommodate, he is upfront about it and provides suggestions
What could be improved: Nothing
Spacious apartment in city centre Awesome location smack in the middle of the city. Literally stone's throw away from a wide variety of food and the tram stop is right downstairs.
The apartment is fully equipped and very spacious. Would choose this over a hotel room any day.
Exceptional Best spot to stay in Melbourne.
Great facilities.
Suprise premium chocolate left as a gift
Nicely presented apartment
Nice view of Manchester Unity and Town Hall
Fabulous apartment in a great location Great location
What could be improved: Singles room very small. Lights for the bathroom - if you turn them off in the master bedroom, the hallway switch (used by guests in room #2) wouldn’t turn the lights on 🤷♀️
Very good Welcoming host, presented the keys. Size of apartment was great and perfect location. Bed comfy and everything was clean and light. Air con was perfect during their heatwave of 38.
What could be improved: Was a bit tired in the bathroom and water pressure.
Brilliant location. Easy access to explore the city. Apartment had everything we needed. Location
What could be improved: There was no car park however we did prebook through a wilson’s carpark nearby recommended by our host.
No front desk so need to arrange to meet with the host he tells me a front desk is coming in the near future making check in much easier.
Location! Location! Location! Location, location, location! Walking distance to most things and tram at your door for things a little further away!!
Clean apartment, clean linen, comfy beds, big screen TV.
What could be improved: It was noisy with traffic and tram noise, which made it hard to sleep, but it was because the location was amazing with a tram stop right at the door.
A few things were broken or damaged - the bathroom sink was partially blocked, glass shower door wonky so the glass screen and door hits, damaged pantry doors, no towel rack for wet towels in bathroom (small space). None of these things were deal breakers though. I would absolutely stay again.
