Hotel Description
I remember pulling up to Anchorage Apartments Hampton after a quick drive down from the city center—it’s tucked away on Railway Walk North, right in that quiet pocket of Hampton where the train tracks hum softly in the background, but honestly, it’s not disruptive at all unless you’re a super light sleeper. I mean, the place is just a stone’s throw from Hampton Station, which made it a breeze for me to hop on the Sandringham line and zip into Melbourne proper without dealing with the parking nightmare downtown. The building itself has this understated, modern vibe—four-star without trying too hard, you know? Think clean lines, a bit of that Bayside charm with palm trees lining the street, and a small lobby that smells faintly of fresh coffee from the machine they keep running. Check-in was straightforward; the staff were friendly Aussies who chatted about the best local spots while handing over the key card—no fuss, no long waits, even though I arrived mid-afternoon when things can get a tad busy with families checking out the nearby beaches.
What really sold me on the place was how it feels like a home base rather than just another hotel—each apartment comes with a full kitchen (stocked with basics like a proper fridge and microwave), which was a lifesaver for whipping up brekkie before heading out. My unit overlooked a little courtyard garden, and the sea breeze from Hampton Beach—just a 10-minute walk down Thomas Street—would waft in through the balcony doors, carrying that salty tang that reminds you you’re in coastal Melbourne. Well, sort of; it’s not right on the sand, but close enough that you can hear the waves if you listen hard on a quiet evening. The rooms are spacious, with comfy beds and those thick, fluffy towels that make you feel pampered, though I will say the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the evenings when everyone’s streaming—nothing a quick reset didn’t fix, but worth noting if you’re working remotely. There’s on-site parking, which is gold in this area, especially during summer when the beach crowds spill over from Brighton or Sandringham. Oh, and if you’re into local eats, wander over to Hampton Street for cafes like that little gem, The Pantry, where the flat whites are top-notch— I grabbed one every morning.
All in all, if you’re looking for a spot that’s not smack in the tourist frenzy but still lets you dip into Melbourne’s vibe, Anchorage Apartments hits the mark with its 7.7 rating feeling spot-on—solid value without the pretension. It’s perfect for families or couples who want space to spread out, maybe during the off-season in winter when the area’s quieter and you can snag deals. Sure, it’s not luxurious like some CBD high-rises, but that’s the appeal; it feels authentic to Hampton’s laid-back suburb life. I’d go back in a heartbeat for a relaxed weekend—pack your swimmers and enjoy the underrated Bayside scene.

The apartment was in a good location, clean and comfortable. Although situated next door to the train station it was very quiet. Very close to restaurants and shops.

I was in apartment 303. While the room itself had everything I needed and met my expectations, I can't recommend it for anyone that is a light sleeper. The bedroom was located directly above an alleyway, and several industrial buildings. The noise was horrific, a constant industrial machine sound and at times there were loud works and people in the alleyway at 4am. If you do stay here I recommend bringing earplugs.
The location itself though is a 10/10, the train station is literally 20 steps away from the front door and Hampton street is full of shopping and restaurants.
If you have to park on site it can be a little bit of a hassle. The building has a car elevator you have to take down and then place your car on a car stacker. The first time is a little confusing but after that it is easy, just a little time consuming.Kenith from China (9/10)
