Art Series – The Larwill Studio Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Art Series – The Larwill Studio, you immediately know this isn’t your typical business hotel. The lobby feels more like stepping into a contemporary art gallery — which, honestly, is exactly what they’re going for. This four-star property on Flemington Road has this cool, creative energy that sets it apart from the cookie-cutter places you usually find in Melbourne. The staff actually seem to know their stuff about the artwork displayed throughout the building, and I mean, when was the last time hotel staff could tell you about the local artist whose work is hanging right behind the check-in desk?
The Location Sweet Spot
Here’s what I love about the location — you’re close enough to the city center that getting around is easy, but far enough out that you’re not dealing with the chaos of Collins Street traffic right outside your window. The area has this interesting mix of residential streets and emerging cafes that locals actually frequent. You can walk to the Royal Melbourne Hospital if that’s relevant to your trip, and there’s decent public transport connections. Couples seem to really get this location (they rate it 9.3, which honestly makes sense), probably because it feels more like staying in a real neighborhood rather than a tourist bubble.
The Room Experience
The room design continues that art-focused theme without being overwhelming about it. What really stood out to me was the bed — and apparently I’m not alone in thinking this, because guests consistently rave about how comfortable they are. You know how hotel beds can be hit or miss? Well, this is definitely a hit. The rooms have this modern, clean aesthetic with pops of color from local artwork. There’s enough space to actually unpack and settle in, which I always appreciate on longer stays.
Practical Perks
Parking is available on-site, which honestly saves you a headache in Melbourne where street parking can be a nightmare. The fact that they have so many repeat guests tells you something — people aren’t just staying here once and moving on. There’s something about the place that draws you back, whether it’s the staff who remember your coffee order or just the overall vibe that feels more personal than corporate.
Why Guests Love It
What really works here is that Art Series – The Larwill Studio manages to be both stylish and comfortable without trying too hard. It’s not pretentious about the art angle — it just naturally weaves creativity into the hotel experience. The combination of a great night’s sleep, a location that locals approve of, and that slightly off-the-beaten-path feel makes it appealing to travelers who want something a bit different. You’re paying for quality and character, not just a place to crash for the night.

Check in staff were helpful, including guidance on parking in the building, the restaurant staff were also great and the food plentiful and delicious. The tram was close by and we had a wonderful view of a park. Being next to the hospital allowed us to also indulge in other meal outlets.

Close to the Melbourne zoo. The Royal park is just a few minutes walk. Other facilities, e.g. fcar park, food, toilet, supermarket, even a salon in the children's hospital complex are easily accessible for hotel guests.
