Hotel Description
I remember pulling up to this 2-Bedroom Apartment in Melbourne City – it’s tucked right in the heart of the CBD, you know, just off Collins Street, where the trams rattle by every few minutes and the air smells like fresh coffee from those laneway cafes. Honestly, after a long flight into Tullamarine, finding that included carpark was a godsend – no circling blocks like you do in peak hour, which, let’s face it, can turn into a nightmare around here, especially during footy season when everyone’s flooding in for the MCG games. The check-in was pretty straightforward, self-service with a code they email you, but I appreciated the little welcome pack waiting inside: some Tim Tams and instant coffee pods, which hit the spot after dodging the rain that Melbourne’s famous for. The building itself feels modern but not flashy – sort of that sleek apartment vibe with secure entry, and our unit on the mid-level had these big windows overlooking the Yarra River glimpses, well, if you squint past the high-rises.
What really sold me on the place was how it felt like a proper home base in the middle of all the action. The two bedrooms are spacious enough for a small group – we had four of us crashing there, and nobody felt cramped, with one room having a queen bed that was surprisingly comfy, like sinking into a cloud after a day wandering Queen Victoria Market (which is just a 10-minute stroll north, by the way – pro tip: go early on weekends to beat the crowds and snag the best doughnuts). The kitchen’s fully kitted out, with a dishwasher and even a washing machine – saved us a bundle on laundry, especially after getting caught in one of those sudden downpours. There’s a balcony too, nothing huge, but perfect for sipping a flat white while watching the city buzz below; you can hear the distant hum of the Flinders Street Station announcements if it’s quiet, which it mostly is after 10 PM, though earplugs might help if you’re a light sleeper near the tram lines. I mean, it’s not dead silent like the suburbs, but that’s Melbourne for you – vibrant, a bit noisy, but alive. We cooked up some brekkie most mornings using stuff from the nearby Coles on Bourke Street, and the free Wi-Fi was solid for streaming, no buffering even during peak Netflix hours.
All in all, if you’re looking for a spot that’s more than just a hotel room – something with that lived-in feel without skimping on the 4-star perks – this apartment’s a solid choice, especially at that 8.4 rating, which feels spot-on. It’s not perfect; the bathroom could use a bit more counter space for all your toiletries, and the air con takes a minute to kick in during those humid summer days, but those are minor gripes compared to how easy it made exploring. We walked to Federation Square for events, hopped on a tram to St Kilda Beach on a whim, and even caught a show at the Arts Centre without worrying about Ubers. You’d be hard-pressed to find better value in the city center, especially if you’re traveling with mates or family and want that parking peace of mind. I’d go back in a heartbeat – actually, I already have plans to, come next winter for the food festivals.
