You know, I stumbled upon Boutique Stays – Elmtree during a quick getaway to Melbourne last spring, and honestly, it felt like I’d hit the jackpot in South Yarra. I mean, this place is tucked away on a quiet side street off Toorak Road – not right in the thick of the Chapel Street chaos, but close enough that you can wander over for a coffee at one of those trendy spots like The Kettle Black without breaking a sweat. Driving in from the city center, it took me about 15 minutes, dodging the usual tram traffic on St Kilda Road, and parking was a breeze – they have a few spots out front, though if you’re there during peak hour (think weekday evenings when everyone’s commuting back from the CBD), you might have to circle once or twice. Check-in was smooth as; the staff – a couple of locals who clearly know their way around the neighborhood – handed over the keys with a quick rundown of nearby gems, like the hidden path down to the Yarra River for a morning jog. The building itself has this charming Victorian vibe, with those high ceilings and polished floorboards that creak just a little underfoot, reminding you it’s got some history – apparently, it used to be a family home back in the day.

What really sold me, though, was how it balances that boutique feel without trying too hard. My room – well, it was more like a self-contained apartment, actually – had this cozy setup with a full kitchenette stocked with fresh milk and those little pods for the coffee machine (a godsend after a long flight). The bed was plush, with crisp white linens that smelled faintly of lavender, and the bathroom had one of those rain showers that make you linger way too long. It’s not massive, but the space feels thoughtful – there’s even a small balcony overlooking a leafy courtyard where you can hear birds chirping in the mornings, drowning out any distant hum from Domain Road traffic. I ventured out for dinner at a place called France-Soir, just a short stroll away, and came back to find the place blissfully quiet, even on a Friday night when South Yarra can get a bit lively with the after-work crowd. That said, if you’re a light sleeper, the occasional tram bell from Toorak might sneak in – nothing major, but earplugs could be handy during peak season in summer when tourists flock to the nearby Botanical Gardens for picnics and events.

All in all, if you’re after a spot that feels authentically Melbourne – sort of upscale but unpretentious, with easy access to Prahran’s markets or a quick train ride into the city – this is it. The 9.4 rating isn’t hype; it’s earned from those little touches that make you feel at home, like the complimentary bikes they offer for exploring the river trails. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in autumn when the leaves turn and the area’s vibe is just magical – though book ahead, as it fills up fast with locals escaping the suburbs for a staycation.   Location is fantastic, just off Toorak Rd and walking distance to everything you could want! The property itself is finished beautifully and has every amenity you could possibly hope for. It is so comfortable, calm and perfect with young kids. The hosts even left a lovely little goodie bag of snacks and other bits for the stay too! Especially loved the car park & the parking permit for street parking (really handy for us with kids). Absolutely will book again for our next trip!

  A great location in South Yarra just off Toorak Road – enough to be away from too much road noise. Cafes and resturants only metres away.
  Checking in was a breeze, and the apartment is very well equipped, including sharp knives! Having a washing machine and dryer was really handy too. We found the apartment to be more spacious than what the photos suggested which was a nice surprise, and while not a cheap place to rent, I would definitely stay again if the rates remain reasonable.
