Boutique Stays – Two Plus Two
I remember pulling up to Boutique Stays - Two Plus Two in South Yarra – you know, that postcode 3206 spot right off Toorak Road – and thinking, wow, this place nails that understated Melbourne charm without trying too hard.
I remember pulling up to Boutique Stays – Two Plus Two in South Yarra – you know, that postcode 3206 spot right off Toorak Road – and thinking, wow, this place nails that understated Melbourne charm without trying too hard. It’s tucked away in a quiet residential pocket, but honestly, you’re just a short stroll from the buzz of Chapel Street’s cafes and shops. I mean, if you’ve ever wandered those streets early in the morning, with the aroma of fresh croissants wafting from places like Tivoli Road Bakery, you’ll get why this location feels like a smart secret. The building itself is this converted Victorian terrace – sort of elegant but not stuffy – and check-in was a breeze; the host handed over the keys with a quick chat about the best local spots, no long queues or awkward waits like at those big chain hotels downtown. Oh, and parking? It’s on-street mostly, which can be a bit of a hunt during peak hours – think Friday evenings when everyone’s heading to the Prahran Market – but there’s usually a spot if you circle once or twice.
What really stuck with me, though, was how the place feels like a proper home away from home, especially if you’re traveling with a small group or family – it’s called Two Plus Two for a reason, with those two-bedroom setups that actually give you space to breathe. My room (well, apartment, really) had these high ceilings and polished floorboards that creaked just a little underfoot, adding to that cozy, lived-in vibe. Mornings were my favorite: brewing coffee in the full kitchen while listening to the distant hum of trams on St Kilda Road – not loud enough to wake you, but enough to remind you you’re in the heart of Melbourne. The beds are super comfy, with those crisp linens that smell faintly of lavender (or was it eucalyptus? Anyway, fresh and local-feeling), and there’s even a little balcony overlooking a leafy courtyard where you can sip wine at dusk. It’s not perfect – the Wi-Fi dipped a couple times during a rainy afternoon, which was annoying for work calls – but overall, with a 9 rating, it lives up to the hype. And if you’re here in summer, the air con is a lifesaver against those humid spells, though the place stays pretty cool naturally thanks to the thick walls.
Look, if you’re after a four-star stay that’s more intimate than flashy, this is it – especially for folks who want to ditch the tourist traps and live like a local. You’d be close to the Royal Botanic Gardens for those peaceful walks (pro tip: go at sunrise to avoid the crowds), or hop on a tram to the CBD in under 15 minutes. I left feeling like I’d discovered a gem, you know? It’s the kind of spot that makes you want to extend your trip – or at least bookmark it for next time.
Early hotels booking in Melbourne secures theatre premieres, hidden supper clubs, and sunrise balloon flights over the Dandenongs.

What Our Guests Say
Good Location
What could be improved: Master Bedrooms need blinds on upper window. Bed too light and extra armchair in living room would help.
Superb
Great location, has everything you need! Fantastic location, clean and comfortable, equipped with everything you need for a short or long stay.
What could be improved: Nothing, all good!
Loved the accommodation and particularly the leafy, quiet location. Loved the location and so close to cafe's and trams. Really felt we were in the hub of residential Melbourne life.
We really enjoyed our stay, it is a beautiful neighbourhood and the location was perfect to catch a tram into the MCEC. We loved the location, and the living room with the fireplace. The scene on the tv and music was so inviting! The bedrooms were very nice with plenty of closet space and so was the main bathroom. The beds were comfortable, the house is very clean, and cosy.
