Bradman Modern Style a Walk to MCG, Swan St, CBD
I remember pulling up to the Bradman Modern Style on Miller Street in Richmond – you know, that spot right off Bridge Road where the trams rattle by every few minutes.
I remember pulling up to the Bradman Modern Style on Miller Street in Richmond – you know, that spot right off Bridge Road where the trams rattle by every few minutes. It’s tucked into this lively pocket of Melbourne, address is 24 Miller Street, and honestly, finding parking was a bit of a hassle at first – street spots fill up quick, especially on game days at the MCG, but they have a couple of secure spots if you book ahead. Walking in, the lobby hit me with this clean, modern vibe – think polished concrete floors that echo a little under your shoes, and these funky cricket-themed artworks nodding to the hotel’s name (Bradman, as in the legendary Aussie cricketer, which fits since you’re basically a stone’s throw from the stadium). Check-in was smooth, the staff were chatty locals who tipped me off about the best coffee on Swan Street – like that little hole-in-the-wall roastery on the corner of Church Street. I mean, it’s not some grand entrance, but it feels authentic, sort of like staying in a stylish mate’s apartment rather than a cookie-cutter chain.
What really sold me was how it balances that urban buzz with some thoughtful comforts. The rooms are sleek and modern – mine had these big windows overlooking the treetops toward the Yarra River, and the bed was one of those plush setups that actually lets you sleep through the faint hum of traffic below (though, fair warning, if there’s a big event at the MCG, you might hear the crowds spilling out late). It’s rated an 8 out of 10 for good reason – four-star quality without the pretension, with amenities like a compact kitchenette stocked with decent appliances (I whipped up a quick brekkie using stuff from the nearby Coles on Bridge Road). You can smell the fresh eucalyptus from the parklets outside, and in the evenings, the air carries that mix of barbecue smoke from Swan Street’s pubs and the distant roar of the city. It’s a walk – literally 10-15 minutes – to the MCG for footy or cricket, or hop on a tram to the CBD for Federation Square and all that. I wandered down to Swan Street one night and ended up at this great Vietnamese joint; it’s that kind of neighborhood where everything’s right there, but the hotel itself is quiet enough after dark, especially off-season when Melbourne’s winters keep things mellow.
Look, if you’re coming for a match or just to soak up Melbourne’s vibe, this place is a solid pick – not perfect, mind you, the Wi-Fi dipped a couple times during my stay, and it’s more self-catered than full-service, so don’t expect room service bells and whistles. But for the price and that unbeatable spot in Richmond, you’ll feel like you’ve got the inside track on the city. I’ve stayed in fancier digs downtown, but this one left me wanting to come back – walking distance to the action, with enough local flavor to make you feel like you’re actually living the Melbourne life, not just visiting.
Hotels near me in Melbourne deliver effortless tram hops to theatres, sports arenas, and Southbank cultural hubs.

What Our Guests Say
Ideal location, perfect for kids Great location - walking distance to the train station, trams and the hustle and bustle of Richmond.
We stayed with our 18 month old and the house was perfect. Lots of kids cups, plates, cutlery, there was a porta cot and high chair. Kids books, games The decorations were minimal - nothing little or perfect for kids to destroy.
The house was private, spacious, stocked with everything you could need.
We would 100% stay again and recommend to anyone!
What could be improved: It was quite a cold house. The aircon/heater in one bedroom didn’t work. In saying that the heater in the living room didn’t take long to heat the house.

Passable What could be improved: The place didn't look or feel clean, apart from the beds.
