Hotel Description
I remember pulling up to the Brand New City Apartment City View Pool Gym in Southbank – you know, that buzzing strip along the Yarra River where the high-rises gleam against the water – and thinking, wow, this place is as fresh as it gets. It’s tucked right off City Road, just a stone’s throw from the Southbank Promenade, so you’re basically steps away from those riverside walks that lead straight to the Crown Casino or even over the pedestrian bridge to Flinders Street Station. I mean, if you’re like me and hate lugging bags on public transport, there’s a tram stop practically at the doorstep on Clarendon Street, which zips you into the CBD in minutes. Checking in was a breeze – no long lines or stuffy lobbies; it’s more like arriving at a mate’s modern pad, with a quick key card handover and a friendly chat about the best local coffee spots (pro tip: try the little cafe on Kavanagh Street for a flat white that rivals anything in the laneways). The building’s brand spanking new, so everything smells crisp, like fresh paint and polished concrete, and my apartment on the higher floors had these floor-to-ceiling windows framing the Melbourne skyline – honestly, watching the sunset turn the Eureka Tower all golden while sipping a beer from the in-room fridge was pure magic. But fair warning, if you’re a light sleeper, the hum of traffic from Queens Bridge can sneak in at night, especially during peak hour – nothing earplugs can’t fix, though.
What really sets this spot apart, though, is how it blends that apartment vibe with hotel perks without feeling over-the-top. The pool on the rooftop is a standout – it’s heated, which is clutch in Melbourne’s fickle weather, and I spent a lazy afternoon there after pounding the pavement around the NGV (that’s the National Gallery of Victoria, just a 10-minute stroll away). It’s got that infinity edge overlooking the city, but it can get a bit crowded in summer when everyone’s escaping the heat – well, sort of a minor gripe, but hey, it beats fighting for space at the public beaches. The gym’s solid too, with free weights and treadmills that actually work (no rusty relics here), and it’s open 24/7, perfect for jet-lag workouts at odd hours. Inside the rooms, everything’s thoughtfully kitted out – think comfy king beds with those plush linens that make you hit snooze, a full kitchenette where I whipped up brekkie from Woolies down the road, and even a washer-dryer combo that saved me from overpacking. Parking’s underground and secure, which is a lifesaver in this area where street spots vanish faster than you can say “footy season,” but it does cost extra – around 30 bucks a night, so factor that in if you’re driving from the airport.
All in all, if you’re chasing that sweet spot between city energy and a chill home base, this 4-star gem with its 8.8 rating totally delivers – especially for couples or solo travelers who want views without the eye-watering prices of the fancier spots nearby. I’ve stayed in a few Southbank pads, and this one’s got that authentic Melbourne mix of sleek design and practicality, making it easy to dive into the arts scene or bar-hop along the river. Just book ahead for those busy weekends when the Grand Prix rolls in; otherwise, you’ll regret missing out on waking up to that unbeatable vista.

Reviews
Very good – Claire from New Zealand – 13 May 2025 (8/10)
Great location. Lovely decor. Helpful communication. Small but very comfortable.
What could be improved: I very much did not like how much personal information was required from me (photo of drivers licence and credit card). Made me feel very anxious that I was being scammed.
Could do with another blanket for 1 of the bedrooms.Great location, very comfortable – Raelene from Australia – 11 August 2024 (10/10)
Great location and very clean and comfortable
What could be improved: Location, staff and owners were great, friendly and obligingSuperb – Nichelle from Australia – 2 January 2024 (9/10)
Fantastic views. Great location, close to everything. Prompt and helpful communication.
Very good – Georgia from Australia – 22 February 2024 (8/10)
The apartment was clean and in a good location.
What could be improved: We found it challenging checking in late at night and needing to go to an alternative location to collect the apartment keys.Good – Orgill from Australia – 24 March 2025 (7/10)
Location and clean
What could be improved: No parking!Pleasant – Jane from Australia – 26 May 2024 (6/10)
Good location close to Crown and Southbank. Neat and tidy. Small but good functional kitchen.
What could be improved: Bedding too thin. Only option to keep warm was heater on all night with bedroom doors open.
For $300 per night I would expect cleaners to be able to remove rubbish and wash dishes however checkout instructions advised penalty for not doing these before leaving.Disappointing – Shell683 from Australia – 11 July 2024 (4/10)
Only positives were great location and views, however for same price, apartments with the same positives but without all the negatives are available.
What could be improved: Very difficult check in. If you have luggage, the collection of keys is about 500 metres away. The information sent on how to check in email did not provide details on apartment number or floor level. Rang the number once keys had been collected and was told level 3, no other information. Had to ring back multiple times eventually being transferred to someone who knew the details. Very annoying when tired from flying all day. Very small, no space for Suitcases or draws to put clothes. Largest room has issue with window, air comes through which makes it freezing and very noisy. No extra blankets, if staying during winter, heater will need to stay on all night.
Issues with front door locking, not overly secure.Superb – Anu from Estonia – 26 February 2025 (9/10)
Hea asukoht, super vaated ja kõik mugavused
What could be improved: Võtme leidmine keeruline.Exceptional – Andrea from Italy – 14 August 2024 (10/10)
Nice view.
Exceptional – Tracy from New Zealand – 6 July 2025 (10/10)
