Breathtaking Views – Elegant City Stay – Central Location
I remember pulling up to the Breathtaking Views hotel on La Trobe Street – you know, that bustling stretch right in the heart of Melbourne's CBD, just a stone's throw from the State Library and those free trams that zip you down to the Yarra River.
I remember pulling up to the Breathtaking Views hotel on La Trobe Street – you know, that bustling stretch right in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD, just a stone’s throw from the State Library and those free trams that zip you down to the Yarra River. It’s at 1205/68 La Trobe, and honestly, if you’re coming from the airport via the Tullamarine Freeway, it’s a straightforward 20-25 minute drive, but watch out for the peak-hour snarl around Flagstaff Gardens. I checked in around midday after wandering over from Queen Victoria Market – grabbed some fresh coffee and pastries there, which made the whole arrival feel less jet-lagged and more like easing into the city vibe. The lobby’s got this elegant, understated thing going on, with polished marble floors that echo a bit when it’s quiet, and a faint scent of eucalyptus from the diffusers they use – sort of fresh and welcoming, like Melbourne’s trying to remind you it’s not all concrete. Staff were friendly, no fuss with the check-in; they even pointed out a nearby laneway spot for good ramen if you’re peckish late at night. But yeah, it’s a high-rise, so if you’re lugging heavy bags, the elevators can get crowded during conference seasons – think November when the spring racing crowd hits town.
What really sold me on this place, though, was the room – I mean, the name doesn’t lie about those views. My suite on the upper floors overlooked the skyline toward Docklands, with the Bolte Bridge lit up at night like something out of a postcard, and you could hear the distant hum of trams rattling along below, which actually added to the urban charm without being too noisy (earplugs helped on weekends when the bars on Little Bourke spill out). It’s a solid 4-star setup, nothing over-the-top flashy, but the beds are plush with those crisp white linens that feel cool against your skin after a day pounding the pavements. The bathroom had a rain shower that was a godsend after hiking up to the Carlton Gardens – water pressure’s great, and they stock decent Aussie toiletries, not the cheap generic stuff. I appreciated the little kitchenette too; whipped up a quick brekkie with market finds, saving a few bucks instead of hitting the overpriced cafes on Lonsdale Street. Oh, and parking – if you’re driving, there’s secure underground spots, but book ahead because it’s limited and costs about $30 a night. Minor gripe: the Wi-Fi can lag during evenings when everyone’s streaming, but it’s free and reliable enough for emails. Rating-wise, that 8.3 feels spot-on – elegant without pretension, central enough to walk to Federation Square in under 10 minutes, but you might hear some construction noise from ongoing builds nearby, especially in summer.
All in all, if you’re after a city stay that feels authentically Melbourne – close to the action but with breathing room – this one’s a winner. I’d go back for a quick weekend escape, maybe during the quieter autumn months when the leaves turn in the Royal Botanic Gardens just a tram ride away. It’s not perfect, sure, like the air-con can be a tad finicky if you’re sensitive to temperature swings, but for the price and location, it delivers that elegant edge without breaking the bank. Trust me, waking up to those views beats any generic hotel chain – you’ll feel like you’ve got the city at your feet.
Hotel in Melbourne bookings surge before Australian Open matches, so fans secure courtside stays months in advance.

What Our Guests Say
Very good
Great view and location but! The location of, and the view from, the apartment were both fantastic. It was very easy to walk to Lygon Street and the tram stop was just outside the front door.
What could be improved: The beds were very uncomfortable as the mattresses were very thin and my son and I had to sleep on the couch. The WiFi was intermittent. The hand towel in the bathroom was not clean. There was a leak in the hose attached to the toilet. There were no tea bags provided. The toiletries were just supermarket cheap shampoos etc. Overall, it felt like everything was chosen to save on costs and it relied on the spectacular view to override the issues with the apartment.

Excellent location and facilities Excellent location and city view. Close to tram stops and attractions.
What could be improved: Apartment block not named on booking site. Bed too short for my partner. $1000 +fee if key/fob lost. First time I’ve had to pick up a key from a shop when booking with booking.com so I was a little wary
To sum up, I loved the stunning view! It’s a compact apartment with everything you need for a comfortable and enjoyable The view is definitely amazing. Probably it’s due for a window cleaning. It’s compact and it has all the necessities
What could be improved: We enjoyed our stay and appreciated the coffee and tea supplies—thank you! A few small improvements could make the experience even better. It would be helpful to provide instructions and basic supplies for the dishwasher (or for hand washing dishes) and washing machine, as travelers aren’t always able to buy these for short stays. Enough towels for the number of guests and some basic cleaning supplies would also be appreciated. I couldn’t find a dustpan, which would have been useful. Overall, a lovely place—just a few small touches would make it even more comfortable.
Exceptional Wonderful stay, very helpful and understanding host. Would definitely recommend.
