And get this, the gardens themselves are perfect for a lazy morning jog or picnic – I spotted locals walking dogs and families chilling under the elms, which made the whole area feel lived-in and welcoming, not touristy at all.

What really sold me on this spot was how it balanced comfort with practicality, especially for someone like me who’s traveled Melbourne enough to know the headaches of city stays. Still, it quiets down by 10, and the double-glazed windows muffle most of it. Oh, and the bathroom’s got that rainfall showerhead – pure bliss after a day exploring the laneways or hopping on the free City Circle tram from Flagstaff Station, which is literally steps away.

I left thinking, you know what, I’d book it again in a heartbeat for that next Melbourne trip – especially in spring when the gardens are blooming and the city’s at its best.
