I remember pulling up to the Bright, Open Plan-Living with Stunning City Views – yeah, that’s the full name, a bit of a mouthful, isn’t it? – on a drizzly afternoon in Melbourne’s north, right in that postcode 3058 area around Coburg. It’s tucked away on a side street off Sydney Road, which is handy because you can hop on the number 19 tram and be in the CBD in about 20 minutes, dodging the worst of the peak-hour traffic on the Tullamarine. Honestly, I was skeptical at first; the building looks like one of those modern apartment blocks that popped up during the boom years, all glass and concrete, but stepping inside changed my tune. The lobby’s not some grand affair – more like a cozy reception with a coffee machine that actually brews decent flat whites (a lifesaver after a long flight). Check-in was a breeze, the staff chatting about the best local spots like the hidden Lebanese bakeries on Sydney Road – you know, the ones where the za’atar manoushe smells waft through the air and make you hungry just walking by. My room on the higher floors had these massive floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city skyline, with the distant hum of the Merri Creek trail below if you listen close. It felt bright and airy, like someone’s thoughtfully designed city pad rather than a sterile hotel box.
What really sets this place apart, though – and I mean this as someone who’s crashed in way too many Melbourne spots – is that open-plan living vibe. The rooms are more like mini-apartments, with a kitchenette that’s actually stocked with proper cookware, not those flimsy plastic utensils you get elsewhere. I whipped up a quick brekkie one morning using eggs from the nearby Coburg Market (pro tip: go early on weekends to beat the crowds, it’s buzzing by 9am). The views? Stunning, especially at dusk when the city lights flicker on – you can spot the Eureka Tower if you squint. But fair warning, it’s not all perfect; there’s a bit of street noise from the trams rattling by, particularly in the evenings when Sydney Road gets lively with pub crawlers and kebab runs. Earplugs helped, or just embrace it as part of the neighborhood charm. The beds are comfy, with that crisp linen feel, and the bathroom’s got rain showers that make you linger – though the water pressure dips a tad during busy mornings. Parking’s a mixed bag; there’s limited spots onsite, so if you’re driving, snag one early or you’ll be circling the block like everyone else in this part of town. Oh, and it’s a solid 4-star setup with an 8.3 rating that feels earned – clean, reliable Wi-Fi for remote work, and even a small gym that’s quiet in the off-peak hours.
Look, if you’re the type who wants to feel like a local without the hassle of a full Airbnb setup, this is your spot. It’s great for couples or small families exploring Melbourne’s northside gems – think cycling along the Merri Creek path or hitting up Brunswick’s craft breweries just a short walk away. I stayed during spring, when the jacarandas are blooming and the area’s less touristy than the city center, but I’d avoid peak summer if you’re sensitive to heat; the AC works fine, but the views might tempt you outside anyway. Well, sort of – it’s not flawless, with those minor noise quirks, but overall, it’s the kind of place that makes you linger an extra day. Worth it for the authentic Melbourne immersion, no question.
Apartments in Melbourne suit remote workers with cowork lofts, balcony herb gardens, and fast trams to coworking hubs.
