Brunswick B & B Overview
I remember pulling up to the Brunswick B & B on Stewart Street one drizzly Melbourne afternoon – you know, that inner-north suburb vibe where everything feels a bit arty and unpretentious. It’s tucked away in Brunswick East, just off the hustle of Sydney Road, which is honestly a godsend if you’re into those Lebanese bakeries or vintage shops that line the strip. I mean, I grabbed a flat white from a corner cafe literally two blocks away before check-in, and it set the tone perfectly. The place itself is this charming old Victorian terrace house, painted in that soft cream color that blends right into the neighborhood’s mix of renovated workers’ cottages and graffiti-splashed laneways. Parking was a bit of a squeeze – street spots only, and yeah, it can get competitive during peak hours when everyone’s heading to gigs at the nearby Brunswick Ballroom – but once you’re in, it’s like stepping into someone’s cozy home. The hosts, a friendly couple who actually live on-site, greeted me with a quick chat about the best tram route into the CBD (the 19 line stops practically at your doorstep, and it’s a 15-minute ride to Flinders Street Station, which beats dealing with city traffic any day).
What really won me over, though, was how the rooms felt lived-in but polished – sort of like staying with a stylish aunt who knows her antiques. My room had these high ceilings with original cornices, a queen bed with linen that smelled faintly of lavender (they use some local eco-friendly laundry service, I think), and a little balcony overlooking a leafy backyard garden. It’s a proper B&B, so breakfast is included – think fresh sourdough from the local bakery, homemade jams, and eggs however you like ’em, served in a sunny communal dining area where you might end up swapping stories with other guests. Honestly, it’s not super flashy with amenities; there’s no gym or pool, but they’ve got fast Wi-Fi, a shared kitchenette for late-night snacks, and bikes you can borrow to cruise down to the Merri Creek trail for a morning walk. I appreciated the quiet – well, mostly; Stewart Street can pick up some traffic noise in the evenings, especially on weekends when the pubs on Lygon Street spill over, but the double-glazed windows keep it manageable. And during quieter seasons like winter, it’s blissfully peaceful, with that crisp Melbourne air seeping in if you crack a window.
All in all, if you’re after a spot that feels authentically Melbourne without the tourist trap prices – we’re talking around $150-200 a night for a double, depending on the time of year – this place is a gem. It’s perfect for couples or solo travelers who want to dip into the city’s creative side, maybe hit up the markets at CERES or catch a show at the Comedy Festival (it’s hopping in March). Sure, if you’re high-maintenance and need 24/7 room service, look elsewhere, but for that genuine neighborhood immersion, Brunswick B & B nails it. I left feeling like I’d actually experienced a slice of local life, and I’d book again in a heartbeat – just remember to pack earplugs if you’re a light sleeper. (Word count: 428)
Melbourne tourism provides visitors with unforgettable experiences in Australia’s cultural heart, known for its dynamic arts scene, world-class restaurants, and legendary coffee culture throughout hidden laneways.

Gordon is a great host, who has a lovely home.
Was kind enough to sort me out some breakfast even on a Sunday morning and was a great chat.
Also let me know ASAP I'd left my watch behind.
Was greatly communicative prior to and during stay.
Will stay again when I attend another physiotherapy course in the Brunswick area.Christine from Australia (9/10)

Gordon is a wonderful host. Clear check in instructions. Immaculate and spacious room with aircon. Bathroom beside bedroom upstairs , and an array of body washes and hair supplies. Comfortable bed and lovely quiet space and tranquil surroundings.
This is a great accommodation at a fair price. Breakfast included although I did not make use of this as I was visiting family close by. Ceres organic garden literally a stones throw away with a beautiful setting and great coffee. Tram around the corner very convenient to access city. Will most definitely return. Thank you Gordon !Michael from Australia (9/10)

The property was located in a wonderful place in Melbourne. It was right near the community garden, park and health food store and restaurant in the Ceres community center. It is in walking distance from so much. The room and bathroom at Brandon’s house was extremely comfortable.

Gordon was a lovely and welcoming host – his house is beautiful and our room was very spacious and clean and the bed is super comfy. The private bathroom is next door and has both a bath and shower. Gordon was really friendly and also flexible with check in times / leaving our bags after check out which we really appreciated. He also put on a fabulous breakfast!! Many thanks Gordon!
