First Impressions
Walking into Central Sky High Living on Little Collins, you immediately get that “I’m in the thick of it” feeling that Melbourne does so well. The lobby has this sleek, contemporary vibe without being too corporate — honestly, it feels more like stepping into a well-designed apartment building than a traditional hotel. What struck me right away was how the staff seemed genuinely familiar with the neighborhood, not just rattling off rehearsed directions but actually knowing which laneway has the best coffee (and trust me, in Melbourne, that matters).
Location & Neighborhood
You know what’s brilliant about this four-star property? You’re literally on Little Collins Street, which means you can stumble out the front door and be at some of Melbourne’s best bars and restaurants within minutes. I mean, you’re walking distance from the Royal Arcade, Flinders Lane’s hidden gems, and all those famous laneways everyone talks about. The location score of 8.9 makes complete sense — I found myself barely using public transport because everything felt so accessible on foot. Plus, couples seem to really get this place, and I can see why; there’s something romantic about being able to duck into a cozy wine bar or catch a show without the hassle of planning transport.
The Accommodation
The rooms live up to that “sky high” promise in the name — I had city views that actually made me pause my unpacking to just take it in. The space feels more like a well-appointed apartment than a hotel room, with a kitchenette that’s actually functional (not just for show) and enough room to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. The design is clean and modern without being cold, and honestly, the bed was one of those where you sink in just enough without feeling like you’re being swallowed whole.
The Melbourne Experience
What I really appreciated was how this place connects you to authentic Melbourne rather than tourist Melbourne — though let’s be honest, the line between the two gets pretty blurry in the city center. The concierge pointed me toward places I wouldn’t have found on my own, like this tiny espresso bar tucked away in a building lobby that serves what might be the city’s best flat white. Being right in the heart of Melbourne means you’re experiencing the city’s rhythm naturally, from the morning coffee rush to the after-work crowd heading to rooftop bars.
Why Guests Love It
The 8.2 rating reflects what you’d expect from a solid four-star experience — everything works well without any major surprises, good or bad. Couples particularly seem drawn to this place, and I get it; there’s something about being able to explore Melbourne’s famous food and culture scene together, then retreat to a comfortable, well-located base that feels like your own temporary Melbourne apartment. It’s not trying to be the flashiest place in town, but it nails the essentials: great location, comfortable rooms, and that intangible feeling that you’re staying somewhere that actually gets what Melbourne is about.
Hotels near me in Melbourne deliver effortless tram hops to theatres, sports arenas, and Southbank cultural hubs.

We loved the view and the location of the property. It was a cute apartment with all the bells and whistles you could ask for. It was clean and had a great feel to it
Location is fantastic, walking distance to everything. Secure apartment building off the main street. Great modern apartment throughout and cosy but comfortable lounge and kitchen area. Beds were super comfy as well - enough space in the second bedroom for a portable cot to be set up. Lovely views as well. Parking was easy and just across the road, lower price if you pre-book via First Parking.
