Hotel Description
You know, when I first pulled up to the Charming 2BR Apartment on Lonsdale Street – right there at 639, smack in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD – I was already grinning because finding free parking in this part of town is like striking gold. I mean, if you’ve ever tried circling the blocks around here during peak hours, especially when the Queen Victoria Market is buzzing on weekends, you’ll know what a headache it can be. But nope, this place has its own spot tucked away securely, so I didn’t have to stress about meters or those sneaky tow zones on nearby Spencer Street. Walking in, the building itself has that unpretentious vibe – not some flashy high-rise, but a solid mid-level setup with a quick self-check-in via a code (which, honestly, worked flawlessly even though I arrived late after a tram ride from Flinders Street Station). The lobby smelled faintly of fresh coffee from the cafe downstairs, and as I headed up, I could hear the distant hum of city life – trams clanging on Elizabeth Street, maybe a busker or two – but it wasn’t overwhelming, more like a gentle reminder you’re in the thick of it.
Stepping into the apartment, though – that’s where it really won me over. It’s got this cozy, lived-in charm that feels more like crashing at a friend’s place than a sterile hotel room. Two bedrooms with plush beds (the queen in the main one had sheets that were surprisingly soft, like high-thread-count stuff), a full kitchen where I whipped up brekkie using goodies from the Vic Market just a five-minute stroll away – fresh bread, avocados, you name it. The living area opens up with big windows overlooking Lonsdale, so you get these glimpses of the street action below, especially in the mornings when the sun filters in and the aroma of nearby bakeries wafts up. Well, sort of – there was a bit of traffic noise creeping in during rush hour, nothing earplugs couldn’t handle, but if you’re a light sleeper, maybe request a quieter side. The bathroom’s modern with a rain shower that actually has decent pressure (a rarity in some older Melbourne buildings), and there’s a washer-dryer combo which saved me on a rainy day when I got caught in one of those sudden downpours Melbourne’s famous for. Oh, and the Wi-Fi? Blazing fast, perfect for streaming or working remotely – I caught up on emails while lounging on the comfy couch, with the AC humming softly to cut through the summer humidity.
All in all, if you’re looking for a spot that lets you dip into Melbourne’s energy without feeling like a tourist trap, this apartment’s a gem – rated a solid 8.7 for good reason, and I’d say it’s earned its four stars. It’s ideal for couples or small families who want space to spread out, especially during the busier seasons like Aussie Open time when the CBD gets packed. Sure, it’s not perfect – the decor’s a tad eclectic, like mismatched cushions that add character but might not suit minimalists – but that’s part of its appeal. I left feeling like I’d actually experienced the city, not just passed through, and with that free parking sealing the deal, I’d book it again in a heartbeat. If you’re heading to Melbourne, snag this before it books up – trust me, you’ll thank yourself when you’re sipping coffee on the balcony, watching the world go by.
