Chic 1-Bed Apartment Across from Royal Park
I remember pulling up to the Chic 1-Bed Apartment on a drizzly Melbourne afternoon – you know, one of those days where the sky can't quite decide if it's spring or still hanging onto winter.
I remember pulling up to the Chic 1-Bed Apartment on a drizzly Melbourne afternoon – you know, one of those days where the sky can’t quite decide if it’s spring or still hanging onto winter. It’s tucked right across from Royal Park on what feels like the edge of Parkville, just off Flemington Road, and honestly, that location alone made me glad I’d booked it. No fancy lobby or doorman here; it’s more like a sleek Airbnb-style spot where you punch in a code to get your keys from a lockbox – straightforward, but I appreciated not having to deal with a front desk after a long flight. The apartment itself? It’s got this modern, minimalist vibe with polished concrete floors that echo a bit when you walk in (wear socks if you’re sensitive to cold feet), and big windows that flood the place with light, framing views of the park’s eucalyptus trees swaying in the breeze. I mean, waking up to that greenery – birds chirping, maybe a jogger or two looping the paths – it’s a far cry from the bustle of the CBD, yet you’re only a quick tram ride away on the 58 line to Flinders Street.
What really sold me, though, was how it feels like a proper little home base for exploring Melbourne without the hotel stiffness. The kitchen’s kitted out with a decent Nespresso machine and a full-sized fridge – I whipped up brekkie from goodies I grabbed at the Queen Victoria Market, which is just a 10-minute drive or so north. The bedroom’s cozy, with a queen bed that doesn’t sag (thank goodness, after some dodgy sleeps on past trips), and there’s even a small balcony where I sipped coffee while watching the sun set over the park. It’s across from Royal Park, so if you’re into nature, you can wander over for a picnic or hit the trails – it’s especially magical in spring when the wattles are blooming and the air smells all fresh and floral. That said, it’s not flawless; the building’s on a busy-ish street, so you might hear the occasional tram rumble by in the evenings, and parking’s street-only, which can be a hassle during uni semester when students from the nearby University of Melbourne snag all the spots. Well, sort of – I lucked out mid-week, but weekends could be trickier. And the Wi-Fi’s solid for streaming, but it dipped a couple times during peak hours, nothing major though.
All in all, if you’re after a 4-star-ish stay that’s more apartment than hotel, this place nails it for a relaxed Melbourne vibe – think couples or solo travelers who want space to spread out without breaking the bank. It’s rated around 7.2 for a reason; it’s not luxurious like those South Yarra spots, but the park proximity makes up for it, especially in quieter months like autumn when the leaves turn and the crowds thin out. I’d go back in a heartbeat for that easy access to the zoo (literally a stone’s throw) or even just to chill with a book on the grass. You know what? It’s the kind of spot that reminds you why Melbourne’s all about those hidden gems – practical, pretty, and perfectly positioned for real exploring.
