You know, when I first rolled up to the Chic 1BR Apartment in Peaceful Parkville – it’s tucked away in that leafy postcode 3052, right off Flemington Road – I was honestly surprised by how quickly the city buzz faded into this quiet, almost suburban vibe. Melbourne’s inner north can be a bit of a mixed bag, especially if you’re coming from the CBD chaos, but Parkville? It’s like stepping into a green oasis. I mean, you’re basically neighbors with Royal Park, where locals jog or picnic on weekends, and it’s a stone’s throw from the University of Melbourne campus – handy if you’re here for a conference or just wandering those historic grounds. I arrived mid-afternoon during spring, and the air had that fresh eucalyptus tang from the nearby trees, mixed with the faint hum of trams rattling down Royal Parade. Parking was a breeze, actually – there’s street spots that aren’t too contested outside peak hours, though I’d grab one early if you’re driving in from the airport. Check-in was self-serve with a lockbox code, which felt a tad impersonal at first, but hey, it meant no waiting around in a lobby.
Stepping inside, the place really lives up to that “chic” label without trying too hard – think sleek wooden floors that creak just a little underfoot (in a charming way, not annoying), big windows letting in heaps of natural light, and a kitchenette that’s actually stocked for more than just instant noodles. I whipped up a quick brekkie using the pod coffee machine, and the balcony overlooked a quiet courtyard – perfect for sipping your morning flat white while watching magpies flit about. The bedroom’s comfy, with a queen bed that didn’t leave me with a sore back, and the bathroom has those rain shower heads that make you linger a bit longer. It’s not massive, mind you – one bedroom means it’s ideal for couples or solo travelers, but if you’re a family, you might feel squeezed. Noise-wise, it’s peaceful as advertised; evenings were dead quiet except for the occasional distant train from the Upfield line, which honestly lulled me to sleep. I ventured out to grab dinner at that little Italian spot on Gatehouse Street – nothing fancy, but their pasta is spot-on and way cheaper than downtown. Oh, and if you’re into markets, the Queen Victoria Market is just a 10-minute tram ride away, though avoid weekends if you hate crowds.
All in all, this spot’s a gem for anyone wanting a Melbourne base that’s close enough to the action – think easy access to the zoo or even Lygon Street’s cafes – but far enough to unwind properly. It’s got that 4-star polish with a real lived-in feel, and at a 9 rating, it’s no wonder folks rave about it. Sure, the Wi-Fi dipped a couple times during my stay (blame the weather, maybe?), but nothing that ruined the trip. If you’re visiting in summer, book ahead – Parkville gets popular with uni events – and you’ll thank yourself for choosing this over some sterile hotel chain. Trust me, it’s the kind of place that makes you feel like a local, even if you’re just passing through.

What Our Guests Say
A very cool & spacious renovated apartment in a quiet neighbourhood. Loved the vibe and style!
Really good oven with digital controls. Great rain shower and large bathroom with the convenience of a washing machine and dryer. The dryer is the heat pump type so may take some time to dry or just set to jeans setting if you really want it dry and your clothes can take the heat. Very large windows that let a lot of sunlight in which was really nice. Private undercover garage. Note there is no lift just 1 flight of stairs which was fine for me but may not be for anyone with mobility issues.
I received instructions to take the bins out to the kerb for bin collection day but someone had kindly done it before I could get to it - not sure whom but I’m guessing management?
Overall, nice comfy place to stay!
