Hotel Description
You know, when I first rolled up to the Cityscape Family Oasis in Southbank – that’s right on the edge of Melbourne’s bustling Yarra River precinct, smack in the middle of postcode 3006 – I was honestly relieved to spot that dedicated parking spot. Parking in this part of town can be a nightmare, especially if you’re hauling kids and luggage after a long drive from the airport. It’s tucked away just off City Road, close enough to the Southbank Promenade that you can hear the faint hum of trams rattling by, but not so central that you’re drowned in the weekend crowds spilling out from Crown Casino. I mean, we checked in around dusk during peak summer season, and the self-service kiosk in the lobby was a breeze – no waiting in line like at some of those older hotels up on Flinders Street. The place feels like a proper 4-star hideaway, with that fresh, modern vibe: think sleek marble counters in the kitchenette and big windows framing the city skyline, all lit up like a postcard at night.
What really sold me on this 2BR spot – well, aside from the fact it’s actually spacious enough for a family without feeling crammed – was how it balances that urban buzz with some genuine oasis vibes. The bedrooms are comfy, with those plush queen beds that don’t creak (a pet peeve of mine after too many squeaky stays), and there’s a balcony where you can sip your morning coffee while watching joggers along the river path. Honestly, it’s perfect for families; we cooked up simple pasta dinners in the full kitchen to save on eating out – you know, dodging those pricey spots like the Rockpool Bar & Grill just a short walk away. Southbank gets lively in the evenings, especially around the arts centre or during events at the MCG (which is only a 20-minute stroll or quick tram ride across the bridge), but the building’s insulation keeps the noise down to a low murmur after dark. That said, if you’re a light sleeper, the occasional siren from Queensbridge Street might sneak in – nothing major, but worth noting if you’re not used to city sounds. And oh, the little touches: fresh towels that smell like they’ve just come from the dryer, and a washer-dryer combo that saved us from overpacking. It’s rated 8.5 for a reason – solid value without trying too hard to be flashy.
All in all, if you’re planning a Melbourne trip with the family, this place is a smart pick, especially in the cooler months when the crowds thin out and you can really enjoy wandering to Federation Square or grabbing gelato along the promenade without the summer swarm. It’s not perfect – the Wi-Fi can lag a bit during peak hours – but for the price and that rare parking perk, it feels like a win. I’d go back in a heartbeat, sort of like finding your own little bubble in the heart of the action.

The location was fantastic, easy to get too, being out of town was a bit of a effort to understand how to use what key and where and how via elevator and everything but once we got the hang of it, it was pretty cruisey ☺️
