First Impressions
Walking into Clarke Contemporary Southbank Skyline Dreams, you immediately get that this is a place that takes its name seriously. The contemporary design hits you right away — clean lines, floor-to-ceiling windows, and honestly, some of the best city views I’ve encountered in a four-star property. It’s one of those hotels where you actually want to spend time in the lobby, which says something about the thought they’ve put into the space. The attention to detail throughout the public areas reflects a commitment to modern elegance and guest comfort.
Location & Neighborhood
You know what’s brilliant about staying in Melbourne’s Southbank? You’re literally across the river from the CBD, but without all the hustle and noise that comes with being right in the thick of things. The location score of 8.9 makes perfect sense when you realize you can walk to Federation Square in about ten minutes, yet you’re surrounded by some of Melbourne’s best riverside dining and cultural spots. I mean, the Royal Botanic Gardens are practically on your doorstep, and the Arts Precinct is a leisurely stroll away. This neighborhood positioning offers guests the perfect balance of urban convenience and peaceful riverside living.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in had those massive windows that frame Melbourne’s skyline like a living artwork — and trust me, the sunset views over the Yarra are something special. The contemporary design continues here with smart storage solutions and a layout that actually makes sense (you’d be surprised how many hotels get this wrong). The bed was comfortable enough that I didn’t want to get up for my morning coffee run, which is saying something for someone who takes their Melbourne coffee culture seriously. Each space has been thoughtfully designed to maximize both functionality and aesthetic appeal.
Dining & Amenities
While the hotel’s restaurant serves solid contemporary Australian fare, what I really appreciated was how they’ve embraced the neighborhood’s dining scene. The staff genuinely knows their local recommendations — not just the touristy spots, but places where locals actually eat. The spa facilities are well-maintained and offer a nice retreat after a day exploring the city, though it’s more about relaxation and rejuvenation. Additional amenities include modern fitness facilities and thoughtfully curated guest services.
Why Guests Love It
There’s a reason couples rate this place so highly for romantic getaways — the combination of those skyline views, the sophisticated atmosphere, and the walkable location creates something pretty special. You’re close enough to everything that matters in Melbourne, but far enough from the tourist crowds to feel like you’ve discovered something. The Southbank Promenade is right there for evening walks, and when you want to venture into the city proper, you’re never more than a quick tram ride away. It’s that sweet spot between accessibility and tranquility that makes Melbourne such a great city to explore. This hotel truly captures the essence of what makes Southbank such a desirable destination.
Melbourne’s apartments welcome families with spacious lounges, playground courtyards, and quick rides to beachside St Kilda.

What Our Guests Say
The apartment met our needs in every way. The location was excellent. It was very modern, well maintained and spotless. The bedrooms were a good size with really comfortable queen beds and a t.v. in one of the rooms. The kitchen was well kitted out and there was a very comfortable sofa in the living area. Bathroom was a fine size with a lovely rain shower. It was easy to access the apartment and the well stocked shop downstairs was an added bonus.
Overall we had a very enjoyable stay and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone.
Great location and well appointed apartment
It was just perfect size for a family of 3. Washing machine and dryer was a bonus. Woolworths in the building was very convenient.
Location is convenient near everything and a super market is right down stairs.
