Close To All Overview

I remember pulling up to Close To All on Flinders Street – you know, that bustling stretch right in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD, just a stone’s throw from the Yarra River. It’s tucked into Unit 106 at 565 Flinders, and honestly, finding it was a breeze even with the one-way streets and tram tracks everywhere. I mean, if you’re driving in from the airport, parking’s a bit of a juggle – there’s a multi-story lot nearby on Spencer Street, but it’s pricey during peak hours, like when everyone’s rushing to the footy at the MCG. But once you’re there, the location just clicks. I stepped out and could hear the distant clang of trams and that faint salty breeze off the river – it’s like the city pulses around you without overwhelming. Check-in was smooth; the staff were these laid-back Aussies who chatted about the best nearby coffee spots (pro tip: try the flat white at the little cafe on Collins Street, it’s worlds better than the chains). My room on the higher floor overlooked the street, and while there’s some ambient noise from the bars below – especially on Friday nights when Southbank lights up – it wasn’t anything earplugs couldn’t handle. Actually, it added to the vibe, making you feel plugged into Melbourne’s energy.

What really sold me on this place was how it balances that sleek, modern feel with practical touches that make traveling easier. It’s a solid 4-star setup, but with a 9.3 rating for a reason – the rooms are spacious, with these massive windows letting in tons of natural light, and the beds? Oh man, they’re like sinking into a cloud after a day wandering Federation Square or hitting up the Queen Victoria Market (which is just a quick 10-minute walk north, by the way – grab some fresh oysters if you’re there on a weekend). The kitchenette came in handy; I whipped up a simple brekkie with goodies from the market, saving me from overpriced hotel food. There’s free Wi-Fi that’s actually reliable – streamed a show without buffering, which is rare in city spots – and the bathroom had those rain showerheads that make you linger a bit too long. Well, one minor gripe: the air con can be a tad noisy if you’re a light sleeper, but flipping it to fan mode sorted it out. And during quieter seasons, like autumn when the laneways are less crowded, it’s pure bliss – no lines at the nearby eateries on Degraves Street, where the laneway cafes serve up aromas of fresh pasta and espresso that waft right up to your balcony.

Look, if you’re the type who wants to dive into Melbourne without wasting time on commutes – think exploring the graffiti-covered Hosier Lane or catching a show at the Arts Centre, all within walking distance – Close To All is a gem. It’s not some flashy resort, but it’s authentic to the city’s vibe, sort of understated luxury that lets the surroundings shine. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially for that mix of convenience and comfort. You know what? Book it for a long weekend; you’ll thank me when you’re sipping a local craft beer on the riverfront, feeling like you’ve got the best of Melbourne at your doorstep. (Just pack light – the elevators are compact, but hey, that’s city living for you.)

  • Luke from Australia (9/10)

Lilly welcomed us at the property and made us feel as though we could ask her for anything. Very central location to everything, Crown casino, docklands and the city, public transport. Did not use the car at all for our stay as was able to walk to everything. We came for the Coldplay concert at marvel stadium, it took around 15 minutes to walk there, so that was fantastic.
