Tucked away in the Docklands area, right off Harbour Esplanade, it’s got that sleek, modern edge with all the glassy high-rises reflecting off the water, but without feeling too corporate or overwhelming. I mean, I arrived via the free City Circle tram from Flinders Street – super easy, takes about 15 minutes – and as soon as I stepped out, there was this fresh, salty breeze from the Yarra River mixing with the faint hum of boats docking nearby. Check-in was a breeze; the staff were these laid-back locals who chatted about the best coffee spots (try the little cafe on Collins Street extension if you’re into flat whites), and they handed over the keys with zero fuss – no long queues like at some of the bigger chains in the CBD. My apartment was on the higher floors, with these massive floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the harbor – sunsets here are killer, all orange and pink streaking across the water, though fair warning, it can get a bit windy up there, rattling the blinds if you leave them open at night.

What really sets this place apart, though, is how it feels like you’re actually living in Melbourne rather than just visiting. The apartments are spacious – think full kitchen with a proper oven and dishwasher, which saved me a ton on eating out (I whipped up some pasta one night using goodies from the nearby Costco, just a short walk away). It’s 4-star, sure, but with that perfect 10 rating vibe, everything’s spotless and thoughtfully kitted out – soft linens that don’t feel starched to death, and a bathroom with rain showers that actually have decent pressure, not the dribble you get in some older spots. I loved wandering out to the Docklands precinct in the evenings; it’s quieter than the bustling laneways of the city center, but you’ve got Marvel Stadium right there for events – I caught a footy game, and the energy was electric without being right in your face. Parking’s a bit of a squeeze if you’re driving (underground spots are limited, so book ahead), and mornings can be noisy with construction – Docklands is still growing, after all – but earplugs sorted that out. Oh, and if you’re here in summer, the outdoor pool area is a godsend, though it gets packed on weekends with families splashing around.

All in all, if you’re planning a trip to Melbourne and want a base that’s close enough to hop over to Southbank for dinner or the markets at Queen Vic (a quick tram ride away), but with room to breathe, this is it. It’s not flashy or over-the-top luxurious, but that’s what makes it authentic – like staying with a friend who knows the city inside out. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially for longer stays; well, maybe avoid peak AFL season if you’re noise-sensitive, but otherwise, it’s a winner. (Word count: 428)
