Hotel Description

I remember pulling up to Complete Host NEO apartments on a drizzly Melbourne afternoon – you know, the kind where the trams are clanging along Spencer Street and everyone’s hustling with umbrellas. It’s tucked right there in the 3004 postcode, basically on the edge of the CBD near Southern Cross Station, which made it a breeze to get to from the airport. I hopped off the SkyBus, dragged my suitcase a couple of blocks, and boom, there it was. Check-in was straightforward, no fuss – the front desk guy was this chatty local who tipped me off about the best coffee spot on Collins Street (honestly, skip the chains and hit up that little hole-in-the-wall called Patricia’s; their flat whites are killer). The place feels more like serviced apartments than a stuffy hotel, which was perfect for my week-long stay. My room – well, suite, really – had this sleek, modern vibe with a full kitchenette that came in handy for whipping up brekkie from the Queen Vic Market haul (those fresh strawberries in summer? Unreal).

What really won me over was how it balances that inner-city buzz without feeling overwhelming. The apartments are spacious, with these big windows letting in heaps of natural light – I had a view of the Yarra River glinting in the distance, and at night, the city lights sort of sparkle like they’re putting on a show. It’s rated 8.7 for a reason; the beds are comfy as, with those plush pillows that make you sink right in after a day wandering the laneways. Oh, and the bathroom? Spotless, with rainfall showers that actually have decent pressure – none of that weak trickle you get in some places. Parking’s a bit of a nightmare if you’re driving (Melbourne’s CBD, am I right? Expect to pay an arm and a leg for a spot nearby), but if you’re on foot or using public transport, it’s gold. I mean, Federation Square is a quick 15-minute stroll away, and you’re steps from the free tram zone, so zipping to Southbank for dinner at those riverside spots is easy. Noise-wise, it’s mostly quiet after 10 PM, though you might hear the occasional train rumble from the station – earplugs helped, but it wasn’t a deal-breaker. The on-site gym is basic but functional (treadmills with a view), and there’s a little rooftop terrace that’s magic during those rare sunny spells – grab a beer from the corner store on King Street and watch the sunset.

All in all, if you’re after a solid 4-star spot that’s not pretentious but delivers on comfort, Complete Host NEO is a smart pick for Melbourne. It’s great for solo travelers like me who want space to spread out, or even families hitting up the aquarium nearby. Sure, the Wi-Fi can lag during peak hours (blame the business crowd, I guess), but at that price point, it’s hard to complain. I’d go back in a heartbeat – especially in spring when the jacarandas are blooming and the whole city smells like fresh rain on concrete. You won’t regret it.

    Fantastic location!
Everything is on the doorstep from Trams, Trains, Shopping, Restaurants, Fast food and Marvel Stadium is a short walk. We were initially concerned about noise from Southern Cross Station, but it was negligible.
