Complete Host West Side Place Apartments Overview

You know, when I first rolled up to Complete Host West Side Place Apartments on the edge of Melbourne’s CBD – right there on Spencer Street, basically a stone’s throw from Southern Cross Station – I was honestly a bit skeptical. I’d just come off a long flight, and the whole area was buzzing with that typical afternoon rush: trams clanging along, office workers spilling out for coffee, and the faint salty whiff from the nearby Docklands. But stepping into the lobby changed everything. It’s one of those sleek, modern high-rises that popped up in the West Side Place development a few years back, and the check-in was a breeze – no fuss, just a friendly staffer handing over the keycard with a quick tip on where to grab the best flat white nearby (turns out, it’s that unassuming cafe on Little Bourke, if you’re wondering). My apartment on the higher floors had these massive floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city skyline, and let me tell you, watching the sunset paint the Yarra River in oranges and pinks while sipping a local brew – well, that’s the kind of Melbourne magic you don’t get in a standard hotel room.

What really sets this place apart, though, is how it feels more like a home base than just a spot to crash. The apartments are spacious – I mean, mine had a full kitchen with actual decent appliances (not those tiny microwaves that barely heat a pie), a washer-dryer that saved me from lugging laundry around, and a balcony where I could hear the distant hum of the city without it being overwhelming. There’s a gym and pool on-site too, which I actually used after wandering through the Queen Victoria Market – picked up some fresh produce there and whipped up a simple brekkie the next morning. Parking’s a bit of a hassle in this part of town, mind you; it’s all street meters or that pricey underground lot nearby, so if you’re driving, plan ahead or just embrace the trams like a local. Oh, and noise-wise, it’s mostly quiet after dark, but during peak tourist season in summer, you might catch some street chatter from the bars on Collins Street filtering up – nothing earplugs can’t fix, honestly. I appreciated the little touches, like the textured linen sheets that felt crisp and cool after a humid day exploring Federation Square, or the way the building’s design keeps things airy and light, even on those overcast Melbourne mornings.

All in all, if you’re heading to Melbourne for more than a quick weekend – say, a week to really dive into the laneways and hidden gems – this 4-star spot with its 9.4 rating is a smart pick. It’s not flawless (the Wi-Fi dipped a couple times during my stay, sort of par for the course in high-rises), but it nails that balance of comfort and convenience, letting you feel like you’re living the local life without breaking the bank. I’d go back in a heartbeat – next time, maybe snag a unit with a river view and hit up the nearby South Wharf for dinner. You won’t regret it.

Melbourne travel planning should be done early, especially during peak season when the city hosts internationally celebrated events like the Australian Open and Melbourne Cup in iconic venues.

Reviews of Complete Host West Side Place Apartments

  • Exceptional – Tracey from Australia – 23 April 2025 (10/10)

What could be improved: Just a suggestion to put a higher chain lock on entrance door, small children can open door & get out of apartment.
Also some more tea or coffee sachets would be nice, not that expensive.

  • Great location, stunning views. – Anne from New Zealand – 5 April 2025 (9/10)

We loved our stay here. Great location. Spacious, clean apartment with incredible views.
Communication was quick, responsive and detailed – especially around access (thank you!).
Teenagers enjoyed the pool/sauna/steam room however found the gym was busy, even late at night.
Friendly and helpful concierge downstairs but be aware they can’t hold luggage after check out, if you want to explore the city. Found a local left luggage place opposite the train station (not cheap).
Starter packs include washing power, dishwasher, washing up liquid etc , along with basic tea/coffee supplies. Might have been nice to have proper milk in the fridge – small thing, but there’s a Cole’s close by.
Not the cheapest apartment in the area, but feel we had a special experience. Will definitely be back for a future visit.

  • brilliant stay with to die for views – Dan from Australia – 26 August 2024 (10/10)

what an incredible apartment! In an amazing location just near Spencer Street station, you’re surrounded by restaurants and bars and things to do. You are in the free tram zone and right next to the station so getting anywhere as a breeze. the view was absolutely to die for. the apartment was almost brand-new and tastefully furnished with a huge Smart TV. Amenities in the building including the huge pool were awesome. Check-in was a breeze and the staff for brilliant. one of the best short stay Apartments I’ve ever stayed in. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Can’t recommend highly enough.

What could be improved: I really liked everything

  • Overall, a good apartment for a short stay. Location is great for any events on at Marvel. – Simon from Australia – 4 March 2025 (8/10)

Great location. Gym, Pool and Sauna were great inclusions.

What could be improved: Apartment was difficult to find. 2 x room keys would be much better seeing it is 2-bedroom apartment.
