Contemporary 2BR apt in central Melb-Collins House #CH30 Overview
I remember stepping off the tram at the Collins and Queen Street stop – you know, right in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD where the old-school architecture mixes with all those shiny high-rises – and there it was, Collins House at 464 Collins Street. Honestly, I was a bit skeptical at first because central spots like this can feel chaotic, especially during peak hours when office workers are rushing everywhere and the trams are clanging non-stop. But walking into this contemporary 2BR apartment, unit #CH30, it was like flipping a switch from the bustling street noise to this sleek, modern oasis. The check-in was a breeze – no front desk fuss, just a quick code entry and up the elevator you go. Inside, the place hits you with that fresh, airy vibe: high ceilings, big windows letting in tons of natural light, and a kitchen that’s actually stocked well enough to whip up a proper brekkie (think decent coffee machine and those little touches like olive oil and salt that save you from a last-minute Coles run). I mean, it’s rated a solid 9 out of 10 for a reason – four stars feel understated here, especially with the comfy king bed that had me sleeping like a log after a day exploring.
What really sold me, though, was how it nailed that balance of city convenience without the overwhelm. You’re literally steps from Flinders Lane’s laneway cafes – I grabbed flat whites from that hidden spot on Degraves Street every morning, dodging the early bird crowds – and a short stroll to the Yarra River for those sunset walks or even catching a show at the Arts Centre. The apartment itself? Super thoughtful layout for a two-bedroom: one room with a queen that’s perfect for crashing after jet lag, the other feeling more like a home office setup if you’re mixing work with play. There’s this subtle nod to Melbourne’s vibe too, with local art on the walls and recycled timber accents that smell faintly of eucalyptus – well, sort of, or maybe that’s just the nearby parks rubbing off. Parking’s a bit of a hassle if you’re driving (CBD rates are steep, and spots fill up fast during events like the Australian Open in January), but honestly, who needs a car when trams zip you to Southbank or the Queen Vic Market in minutes? Oh, and a minor gripe: the street below can get noisy on Friday nights with bar-hoppers spilling out from Hardware Lane, but the double-glazed windows muffle it pretty well – nothing a pair of earplugs couldn’t fix if you’re a light sleeper.
All in all, if you’re after a spot that feels lived-in rather than sterile-hotel-y, this one’s a gem for couples or small families hitting Melbourne for a week or so. It’s not the cheapest, but you get that authentic city immersion – waking up to the hum of trams, smelling fresh pastries from downstairs bakeries, and having space to spread out after pounding the pavements. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-season in winter when the crowds thin out and you can snag those quiet evenings on the balcony watching the lights flicker on the river. Trust me, it’s the kind of place that makes you feel like a local, not just a tourist passing through.

Reviews of Contemporary 2BR apt in central Melb-Collins House #CH30
wonderful:) – Grace from Australia – 19 February 2024 (10/10)
great layout for two
What could be improved: a second fob would have been goodFantastic apartment in an excellent location! – Kim from Australia – 9 June 2024 (8/10)
Excellent location, apartment feels lovely and spacious (good value for money compared to a hotel room), and has all of the usual amenities of home, beds are lovely and comfortable, nice quiet room.
What could be improved: The green couch in the lounge room looks beautiful but is terribly uncomfortable and the tv antenna is quite temperamental, both of which impact the ability to sit and relax and watch tv in the evenings.
