Contemporary 2BR apt in central Melb-Collins House#CH43
You know, I stumbled upon the Contemporary 2BR apt in Collins House—it's unit #CH43 at 464 Collins Street, right in the heart of Melbourne's CBD—during a quick getaway last spring, and honestly, it felt like hitting the jackpot for a city stay without that sterile hotel vibe.
You know, I stumbled upon the Contemporary 2BR apt in Collins House—it’s unit #CH43 at 464 Collins Street, right in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD—during a quick getaway last spring, and honestly, it felt like hitting the jackpot for a city stay without that sterile hotel vibe. I mean, Collins Street is one of those grand old boulevards lined with heritage buildings and fancy boutiques, but this place is tucked into a modern revamp of an old warehouse or something—actually, it’s got that sleek, contemporary edge with clean lines and big windows that let in heaps of natural light. Walking in from the bustling street, where trams clang by every few minutes and office workers dash for coffee at places like the nearby Hardware Lane laneways, the lobby’s all polished concrete and minimalistic art, which sort of sets a chill tone. Check-in was a breeze; it’s self-service with a code they email you, no fussing with front desks, though I did have to lug my bags up in the elevator—well, it’s not huge, so if you’re traveling heavy, pack light. The apartment itself? Spacious for a two-bedroom, with a full kitchen that had decent appliances—I whipped up breakfast using stuff from the Queen Victoria Market, just a 10-minute walk north on Elizabeth Street. The beds were comfy, plush even, and the bathroom had that rainfall shower head that makes you linger a bit too long in the mornings.
What really sold me, though, was how it nails that balance of being smack in the action but not overwhelming—think views over Collins Street’s mix of Victorian facades and shiny skyscrapers, with the faint hum of the city below that quiets down after dark, except maybe on Friday nights when the bars on Flinders Lane get rowdy (earplugs helped, if you’re a light sleeper). It’s a 4-star setup with an 8.7 rating that feels earned; the Wi-Fi was speedy for streaming, and there’s a little balcony where I sipped coffee watching the world go by—smells of fresh pastries from the cafes downstairs wafting up, you know? Practically speaking, parking’s a pain in the CBD—better to ditch the car at a spot like the one under Federation Square (a short stroll away) and rely on the free tram zone that loops right past the door. I wandered to the Yarra River for sunset jogs, or hit up Southbank for dinner—it’s all so walkable, even in Melbourne’s unpredictable weather, which turned drizzly one afternoon but hey, the apartment’s got a dryer for wet clothes. Minor gripe? The air con can be a tad noisy if you crank it, but nothing a white noise app couldn’t fix.
All in all, if you’re after a spot that feels like your own pad in the middle of Melbourne’s buzz—close to icons like the Block Arcade for shopping or the NGV gallery for a culture fix—this one’s a winner, especially for couples or small groups dodging peak season crowds in summer when the streets swarm with tourists. I’d go back in a heartbeat; it’s got that authentic city immersion without breaking the bank or skimping on comfort.
Melbourne’s apartments welcome families with spacious lounges, playground courtyards, and quick rides to beachside St Kilda.

Exceptional
Apart from the disappointment of the air conditioning, our stay was great. The Location, the layout, the view and the apartment as a whole.
What could be improved: Unfortunately, we spent the first two days without air conditioning which was extremely uncomfortable. We did receive however , a couple of small fans on the second day from the host that made it just bearable.
