Cosy duplex 2bed1bath apartment by Melbourne Emporium

I remember stepping off the tram on Bourke Street – you know, right in the thick of Melbourne’s CBD hustle – and weaving through the lunchtime crowd to find this little gem tucked away at 111/318 Little Bourke Street. Honestly, the Cosy Duplex 2bed1bath Apartment by Melbourne Emporium caught me off guard at first; it’s not your flashy hotel lobby vibe, more like slipping into a mate’s well-kept pad in the city. Check-in was a breeze – they emailed me a door code the day before, so no waiting around, which was a lifesaver after my flight from Sydney. The building’s got that classic Melbourne mix of old brick facades and modern tweaks, and as I lugged my bag up the stairs (there’s a lift, but I was feeling energetic), I could already smell the coffee drifting in from the laneways below. Little Bourke’s one of those streets that feels alive, especially around midday when office workers flood out to Hardware Lane for dumplings or a quick flat white – it’s literally steps away.
Once inside, it hit me how spot-on the “cosy” label is. This duplex setup is spread over two levels, with the bedrooms upstairs feeling all snug and private – think soft linens that actually smell fresh, not that over-starched hotel stuff, and big windows letting in that crisp Melbourne light (though watch out for the afternoon glare if you’re napping). The bathroom’s compact, I mean, it’s a one-bath for two beds, so if you’re traveling with a group, you might have to coordinate shower times, but it’s got decent water pressure and those little touches like fluffy towels that make you forgive the squeeze. Downstairs, the living area’s a winner – a kitchenette with a proper stove (I whipped up brekkie using goodies from Queen Vic Market, just a 10-minute walk north), and a couch that begs you to sink in after exploring. Noise-wise, the street below buzzes till late, especially on weekends with the Emporium shoppers spilling out, but the double-glazing keeps it surprisingly muffled – well, except for the occasional tram ding that sneaks through. I loved how it’s right by the Emporium for some retail therapy, or you can duck into Chinatown on Lt Bourke for cheap eats; parking’s a nightmare in this area, though, so I’d stick to public transport or Uber if you’re not keen on circling blocks.
All in all, if you’re after a 4-star spot that feels more like a home base than a sterile room – and with that solid 8.8 rating, it’s clear others agree – this place nails it for a Melbourne getaway. It’s perfect for couples or small families wanting to dive into the city’s vibe without breaking the bank, especially in shoulder seasons like autumn when the laneways aren’t swamped. Sure, it could use a bit more storage for longer stays (my suitcase ended up as a side table), but that’s minor compared to waking up to the hum of the city and knowing you’re smack in the action. I’d book it again in a heartbeat – you know what, next time I’ll time it for the Comedy Festival, just to hear the laughs echoing up from the streets.

What Our Guests Say
It was all so beautiful and all the little touches in the home and the little extras
It was the perfect location right in the middle of the city, the building had a lot of history and the apartment was very cosy.
loved the location. the anterior design, styling and all the facilities provided made this apartment feel very homey and cozy. my family and i were very stunned by the styling the moment we entered the apartment. the water pressure and heater were good, and we loved the beds as well.
The location was perfect. I don’t think you can get a more central Melbourne apartment than this one. The styling was perfect. We walked in and felt like we were transported to Paris. We would step out and be in the centre of the shopping district with hardware lane and other foodie laneways only a couple of blocks away with the bonus of many rooftop bars extremely close. Air con throughout the apartment during the hot days was a blessing. Well worth the visit and would book again.
Excellent city location. Nice, clean and cosy feel for this nicely decorated appartement. Felt at home.
The location location!
A charming apartment in the heart of Melbourne. It has a nice little living area and two separate bedrooms upstairs (both double-bed), a good enough kitchen for basic cooking (although ventilation might be a problem if you go overboard), even a washing machine and dryer. Not a whole lot of natural light but that suited us. I always try to think about what I could reasonably expect based on what's advertised and cannot find cause to mark this down from a 10. We didn't meet hostess Charlene but all communication was clear and timely.
Location and quiet
Although small, was well decorated and in a great location.
