I checked in around midday, and the host was super laid-back; they handed over the keys with a quick rundown of the Wi-Fi password and where to find the nearest Coles for groceries. It’s on the quieter end of the street, away from the main tram rumble on Lonsdale, but you can still hear that faint ding-ding of the lines if you crack a window – sort of charming, really, unless you’re a light sleeper during peak hours.

What made it feel like a proper home base, especially for a family trip, was how roomy and thoughtful the setup is. We had a two-bedroom unit on the upper floors, with a full kitchen that came stocked with basics like tea bags and a decent coffee plunger – none of that instant stuff. The living area had these comfy couches that begged for lounging after a day wandering to Flagstaff Gardens (just a five-minute stroll north, perfect for picnics if the weather holds). Views weren’t skyline-stunning, but you get glimpses of the city buzz below, and the balcony was a nice spot for morning brews while watching folks hustle to work. Well, I mean, it’s not luxury-level – the bathroom could use a bit more counter space for all the kids’ toiletries, and parking’s a hassle if you’re driving (better to snag a spot in the nearby Wilson lots, around $20 a day). But the place is spotless, with fresh linens that smell like they’ve just come out of the dryer, and it’s got that cozy warmth from the underfloor heating, which is a godsend in Melbourne’s unpredictable winters. We cooked up a storm one night using veggies from Queen Victoria Market – it’s literally a 10-minute walk up Elizabeth Street, dodging the street performers and that irresistible aroma of fresh doughnuts.

All in all, if you’re after a 4-star spot that feels more like your own pad than a sterile hotel room, this one’s a winner with its 8.8 rating that totally holds up. It’s ideal for families or groups who want to dive into Melbourne without the chaos of staying right on Collins Street – think easy access to the free tram zone for zipping to the Docklands or even catching a game at Marvel Stadium. Sure, it gets busier during events like the Australian Open in January, when the station’s packed, but that’s part of the energy. I’d go back in a heartbeat; just pack earplugs if you’re sensitive to city sounds at night. You won’t regret basing yourself here – it’s practical, welcoming, and leaves you with that satisfied feeling of having found a hidden gem in the CBD.

  Really well designed, comfortable and beautiful apartment. Location was great for being in the CBD – lots of amazing cafes and restaurants around, grocery store nearby and good transport links. The bed was super comfortable! Really nice touch to have dedicated accounts for the apartment on streaming services on the TV. They also let me check in early, which was really helpful and greatly appreciated.
  
  What could be improved: The only thing, and it's not the owners fault at all, but the neighbours were quite noisy watching TV/gaming quite late into the night – which was very audible from the bedroom.

  Very comfortable bed and the fold out lounge was also very comfortable. Quiet apartment. Close to Southern Cross and Flagstaff stations. Plenty of good places to eat right next door.

  Place – great setup in a 1 bedroom apartment. Very clean and facilities are perfect for stay eg ironing board/iron, washing machine, dishwasher.

  The whole vibe of house is cozy and stunning,
