Designer Apt Southbank, close to Crown and MCEC#SH19
I remember pulling up to the Designer Apt on Clarendon Street in Southbank – you know, that bustling strip right by the Yarra River where everything feels a bit more alive with the city hum.
I remember pulling up to the Designer Apt on Clarendon Street in Southbank – you know, that bustling strip right by the Yarra River where everything feels a bit more alive with the city hum. It was one of those drizzly Melbourne afternoons, and honestly, finding parking wasn’t a total nightmare; there’s a spot nearby on Kavanagh Street if you’re lucky, or just bite the bullet and use the paid garage under the building. I mean, Southbank can get chaotic, especially during events at the MCEC – that’s the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, just a five-minute stroll away – but this place sits back enough that you don’t feel swallowed by the crowds. Checking in was a breeze; it’s more like an apartment setup, so they emailed me the access code ahead of time, no fussing with a front desk. Walking in, the first thing that hit me was the sleek, modern vibe – think polished concrete floors that feel cool underfoot and these massive floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the river. Oh, and the faint scent of fresh linen mixed with whatever coffee the previous guests had brewing; it just screamed “designer” without trying too hard.
What really sold me on this spot – well, besides being a stone’s throw from Crown Casino (perfect for a cheeky night out, though fair warning, the lights and noise from there can filter in if your windows are open late) – was how it felt like a proper home base in the heart of it all. The kitchen’s fully kitted out with shiny appliances and even a Nespresso machine – I whipped up a quick brekkie one morning while watching joggers along the promenade below. The bedroom’s got this plush king bed that swallows you up, and the bathroom? Rainfall showerhead and those fluffy towels that make you linger a bit longer. It’s rated 8.8 for a reason, you know; everything’s spotless, but I will say, during peak season like the Australian Open, the area buzzes more, so light sleepers might hear trams rattling by on Clarendon. Still, it’s sort of charming – that Melbourne energy. I spent an evening on the balcony sipping a local pinot, listening to the distant hum of the city and the occasional boat horn on the Yarra. And getting to the CBD? Just hop across the pedestrian bridge to Flinders Street Station; it’s quicker than waiting for an Uber in traffic.
Look, if you’re heading to Melbourne for business at the MCEC or just to soak up the Southbank scene – maybe catch a show at the Arts Centre or wander over to the NGV gallery – this designer apartment is a smart pick. It’s got that 4-star polish without feeling stuffy, and at around 400 words in, I’d say it’s ideal for couples or solo travelers who want space to spread out (there’s even a washer-dryer, which saved me on a longer stay). Not perfect – the Wi-Fi dipped once during a storm – but overall, it left me wanting to book again. You get the views, the convenience, and that authentic slice of urban Melbourne life. Trust me, it’s worth it.

What Our Guests Say
Exceptional
Exceptional
Nice apartment with a great view Booked the apartment for the city vibe. You're on the 19th floor (of 46) and have a great view which was a nice contrast after a lot of nature. All quite new, very clean, good location (two stops outside the free tram zone). Fully equipped so I made my own breakfast with a view after shopping at Woollies close by. Coffee capsules and some basic cooking stuff (oil/salt/pepper) are provided.
What could be improved: The curry spices smell from previous cooking still were very noticeable. When leaving the apartment you also smell what everyone else is eating.
You wonder who came up with the design of the bathroom faucet knobs. They are perfectly round so impossible to open or close when you have some soap on your hands.
Good
Very good communication with host, good directions and lovely stay. Thank you. Excellent hot shower and kitchen facilities. All the little essential items provided. Great location to Convention Centre and Crown.
What could be improved: Really need 2 towels per person & 2 bed pillows per person. Definitely need 2 larger coffee cups.
Met my needs perfectly, no negatives Nice apartment; convenient for convention center.
