DoubleTree by Hilton Melbourne Overview
First Impressions
Walking into DoubleTree by Hilton Melbourne, you’re immediately struck by how perfectly positioned this place is on Flinders Street. I mean, you’re literally in the thick of everything — Federation Square is right across the street, and you can practically roll out of bed and onto a tram. The lobby has that polished Hilton feel without being stuffy, and the staff genuinely seem happy to see you.
Location & Neighborhood
This four-star hotel sits in what I’d call the absolute sweet spot of Melbourne. Flinders Street Station is literally a two-minute walk, which means the entire city opens up via train and tram. The Yarra River is right there for morning walks, and you’re surrounded by laneways packed with street art and coffee shops locals actually frequent. Couples especially love wandering around this area. There’s something romantic about discovering hidden bars down cobblestone alleys.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in faced the street, and while you might worry about noise, the windows do a solid job keeping the city hum to a manageable level. The beds are properly comfortable — not just hotel-marketing comfortable — and there’s enough space to actually unpack without playing Tetris with your luggage. What I appreciated most was the attention to practical details: plenty of power outlets, decent lighting for reading. The bathroom doesn’t require contortionist skills to use the shower.
Dining & Amenities
Breakfast here is actually worth getting up for, which says something coming from someone who usually grabs coffee and runs. They’ve got this impressive spread that covers pretty much every dietary requirement — continental, full English, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, American style. The restaurant downstairs serves solid food, though honestly, with Melbourne’s incredible dining scene right outside your door, you’ll probably want to explore. There’s also a fitness center that’s better equipped than most hotel gyms.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it balances being a proper business hotel with genuine warmth and accessibility. You’re not paying five-star prices, but you’re getting four-star comfort in a location that would impress even the most discerning travelers. The fact that couples rate the location so highly tells you something. This isn’t just about convenience for business travelers. Whether you’re here for a weekend getaway or a longer stay, you’ll find yourself using the hotel as a comfortable base rather than just a place to crash.
Hotels in Melbourne line Federation Square, riverside promenades, and tram-linked neighborhoods buzzing with live music.

The staff were absolutely wonderful and accomodating! I’ve never booked and stayed at a hotel myself, and it was such a breeze of a process. The room was small, but exactly what you need if you’re only staying there to sleep.
The staff were so kind and friendly, it was the highlight of the stay, despite only interacting with them when we checked in and checked out.Jennifer from Australia (9/10)
