Element Melbourne Richmond Overview
You know, when I first pulled up to the Element Melbourne Richmond on Swan Street, I was honestly a bit surprised by how seamlessly it blends into the neighborhood—it’s not one of those flashy high-rises that scream “hotel,” but more like a sleek apartment building tucked among the vintage pubs and indie cafes that make Richmond feel so alive. I mean, Swan Street’s got that gritty-cool vibe, with spots like the Corner Hotel just a short walk away for live music gigs, and you’re basically steps from the Yarra River trail if you fancy a morning jog or bike ride. I arrived mid-afternoon during peak hour, and yeah, the traffic hum from the street was noticeable—nothing earplugs couldn’t fix, but if you’re a light sleeper, ask for a room facing the back. Check-in was a breeze; the staff were chatty locals who tipped me off about grabbing brekkie at nearby Top Paddock (their avocado smash is legendary, by the way), and they sorted my parking spot in their underground lot without any fuss—though spots can get tight on weekends when footy fans flood in for games at the MCG, which is only about a 10-minute tram ride away on the 70 line.
What really won me over, though, was how the place feels designed for actual living, not just crashing for a night. The rooms—well, suites, really—are spacious with full kitchens stocked with basics like a microwave, fridge, and even a dishwasher, which was a godsend for my week-long stay; I whipped up simple dinners from the fresh produce at the Queen Victoria Market (hop on a tram down Bridge Road, it’s easy). The decor’s modern and eco-minded—think recycled materials and those energy-saving lights that don’t make everything look dingy—and the beds are plush, with linens that smell faintly of lavender from their laundry service. Honestly, the free breakfast spread in the lobby is solid, nothing gourmet but fresh yogurt, fruits, and decent coffee that beats the instant stuff. I did notice the Wi-Fi could lag a bit during evenings when everyone’s streaming—minor gripe, but for remote workers like me, it’s worth knowing. And the rooftop terrace? It’s a hidden gem for sunset views over the city skyline, especially in summer when the air’s warm and you can hear distant trams clanging below—sort of peaceful in a urban way.
All in all, if you’re looking to experience Melbourne like a local without the CBD chaos, this spot’s a smart pick. It’s got that 4-star polish with an 8.5 rating that feels earned, and at rates that won’t break the bank for extended stays, it’s perfect for families or solo travelers wanting to settle in. Just time your visit outside of AFL finals season if you hate crowds—otherwise, dive right into the energy. I’d go back in a heartbeat.

I only asked if the restaurant was dog friendly once so we could celebrate my husband's birthday and never thought any more of it. Upon checking in, they took that one line I typed and upgraded our room to a spacious balcony room and had a bottle of bubbly on ice waiting for us on arrival. They were so dog friendly and provided a dog menu which we didn't use because my dog is on a strict prescription diet but I would have in his younger years.
