Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon the Emporium Luxe 1BR King Suite kind of by accident last time I was in Melbourne – I was there for a quick work trip in November, right when the city starts buzzing with that pre-Christmas energy, and honestly, it turned out to be a total gem. Tucked away at 250 Elizabeth Street, smack in the heart of the CBD, it’s the kind of spot where you step out the door and you’re immediately hit with that lively Melbourne mix – the clang of trams rattling down the street, the faint aroma of coffee from those hole-in-the-wall cafes on Little Bourke just a block over, and yeah, the occasional whiff of street food from the Queen Victoria Market if you wander north a bit. I mean, parking’s a bit of a nightmare in this area – CBD spots are gold dust, so I ended up using one of those multi-story lots on Lonsdale, which wasn’t too bad, about a five-minute walk. But once you’re inside, it’s like flipping a switch from the urban hustle to this sleek, understated luxury. Check-in was a breeze; it’s one of those self-service deals with a code, but they sent me a super helpful email with tips on navigating the building – no fuss, no waiting around in a lobby that smells like stale air freshener.
What really sold me on the place was how it felt like a proper home base rather than just another hotel room – it’s a one-bedroom king suite, so you’ve got that spacious living area with plush couches that actually invite you to sink in after a day of exploring (and trust me, after pounding the pavements from Federation Square to the laneways off Flinders, you need it). The king bed? Oh man, it’s ridiculously comfortable, with those high-thread-count sheets that feel cool and crisp even in Melbourne’s unpredictable spring heat. I remember waking up to the soft hum of the city below – not too noisy, actually, thanks to the double-glazed windows that keep out most of the Elizabeth Street traffic, though you might hear a siren or two if you’re a light sleeper. The kitchenette’s a lifesaver; I whipped up a quick brekkie with stuff from the nearby Coles, and there’s even a washer-dryer combo, which came in handy after I got caught in one of those sudden rain showers that Melbourne loves to throw at you. Well, sort of a minor gripe – the Wi-Fi was speedy for streaming, but it dipped a tad during peak evening hours when everyone’s online. Still, for a 4-star setup with a perfect 10 rating, it’s got that thoughtful touch, like the little balcony overlooking the street where I sipped my morning flat white and watched the world go by.
Look, if you’re heading to Melbourne and want something central without feeling like you’re in a soulless tower, this suite’s where it’s at – especially for couples or solo travelers who appreciate being steps from the Emporium shopping arcade (hello, last-minute gift runs) or a quick tram ride to the Yarra River spots. It’s not the cheapest, but honestly, for the prime location and that cozy, lived-in vibe, it’s worth every penny. I’d go back in a heartbeat, maybe in winter when the city’s quieter and you can really hunker down. Just pack earplugs if you’re sensitive to city sounds – though, you know what, it adds to the authentic Melbourne experience.

What could be improved: The parking situation was a little complicated at first but once you figure out the ways it's not so bad considering most hotels in Melbourne don't come with parking arrangementsA fantastic, well appointed, immaculate little apartment in the heart of the city. – Vanessa from Australia – 2 June 2025 (10/10)
Fantastic central location. Very comfortable bed. Apartment was very clean and had everything we needed for a weekend away – including some kids books and toys which were a lovely addition.
What could be improved: Initially some slight confusion as to how to enter the property, but this was quickly addressed by the host who was very responsive.Superb – David from Australia – 13 July 2025 (9/10)
