I remember pulling up to the ErgoModern in North Melbourne – it’s tucked away on that quieter stretch near Arden Street, you know, just a stone’s throw from the tram lines on Flemington Road that whisk you into the CBD in like ten minutes flat. Honestly, after dodging the peak-hour chaos around Queen Victoria Market (which, side note, is only a 15-minute walk away and totally worth it for the fresh doughnuts on weekends), finding this place felt like a little oasis. The building’s got that sleek, modern vibe – all glass and clean lines – but it’s not pretentious, more like a comfy apartment block you’d actually want to live in. Check-in was a breeze; I mean, it’s one of those self-service setups with a code sent to your phone, which is great if you’re arriving late from the airport, but well, make sure your phone’s charged because there’s no front desk drama. My room – er, apartment, really – opened up to this balcony overlooking the neighborhood, and the first thing that hit me was the faint hum of the city mixed with that fresh, eucalyptus-y scent from the nearby parks. It’s not dead silent at night, what with the occasional tram rattle, but earplugs sorted that out, and honestly, it’s way quieter than staying smack in the middle of the city.
What really sold me on the ErgoModern, though, was how it nailed the practical stuff for a longer stay – like, it’s got a full kitchen with actual decent cookware (not those flimsy hotel pans), so I whipped up brekkie using goodies from the market without feeling like I was roughing it. The pool on the rooftop is a gem, especially in Melbourne’s unpredictable summer; I spent an afternoon there floating around, the water cool against the sun, though it can get a bit crowded with locals popping in – sort of a hidden perk, but pack your own towel if you’re picky. And the gym? It’s compact but kitted out with free weights and machines that don’t feel like they’re from the ’90s, plus there’s this balcony view while you’re on the treadmill that makes the workout less of a chore. Oh, and parking – if you’re driving, snag a spot in their underground lot early, because North Melbourne’s streets fill up fast, especially during footy season at the nearby Marvel Stadium. I did notice the Wi-Fi dipped a tad in the evenings, but nothing a quick reset couldn’t fix, and the textures in the room, like the soft linen sheets and that plush couch, made lounging after a day exploring feel luxurious without trying too hard.
Look, if you’re heading to Melbourne and want something that feels more like a home base than a sterile hotel – especially if you’re into that indie vibe of North Melbourne with its cafes on Errol Street (try the coffee at Auction Rooms, it’s killer) – this place is a solid pick. It’s not perfect; the pool hours end a bit early at 8 PM, which is a bummer in those long summer evenings, but overall, with its 4-star setup and that 8.5 rating that actually holds up, you’ll get good value. I’ve stayed in fancier spots downtown, but this one left me refreshed, not drained, and that’s what matters when you’re traveling, right? Just book ahead for busy times like the Australian Open – it gets snapped up quick.
To book a hotel in Melbourne during Grand Prix week, visitors plan ahead to balance trackside thrills with Yarra River sunsets.

What Our Guests Say
Great experience, would come again! Great location, felt save and secure, and relatively quiet. Good tram connections. Spacious apartment with tasteful furnishings, well equipped and clean appearance, comfortable bed,
fast internet, Netflix.
Did not use gym and pool.
Very pleased and surprised by the real flower arrangement! Thank you!
What could be improved: Picking up the key was not an issue, but a little more explanation on how to use it would have helped.
Mixed feelings about a mens toiletry bag left in the bathroom cabinet!?
Not so happy with the checkout process.
The price and the location are amazing and we will definitely stay again! The location to Peter Mac was exceptional! It was so easy to make all of our appointments just by walking! There is plenty of breakfast and dinner options, great coffee all around you and a short walk to the Queen Vic Market. The security for the building while I was on my own was also great, and I always felt safe. It was quiet and clean enough.
What could be improved: The bed is not overly comfortable and is only a double. The toilet is unusually high, you will need a stool!
