Farrah Designer Three Bedroom Carlton Residence

I remember pulling up to the Farrah Designer Three Bedroom Carlton Residence on Faraday Street – you know, that quiet stretch in Carlton where the old Victorian terraces mix with those trendy coffee spots – and thinking, wow, this place actually feels like a hidden gem amid Melbourne's inner-north buzz.

I remember pulling up to the Farrah Designer Three Bedroom Carlton Residence on Faraday Street – you know, that quiet stretch in Carlton where the old Victorian terraces mix with those trendy coffee spots – and thinking, wow, this place actually feels like a hidden gem amid Melbourne’s inner-north buzz. It’s at 254 Faraday, right near the edge of the university precinct, so if you’re coming from the city, it’s an easy tram ride up Swanston or even a brisk walk from the CBD if you’re feeling energetic. Honestly, parking can be a bit of a hassle here – street spots are competitive, especially on weekends when everyone’s hitting Lygon Street for pasta – but they sorted me out with a secure spot in their little undercover area, which was a relief after dodging cyclists on Rathdowne. Check-in was low-key; no grand lobby or anything, just a friendly host who buzzed me in and handed over the keys with a quick rundown – “Watch the stairs, they’re original timber” – and suddenly I was in this spacious three-bedroom setup that felt more like borrowing a mate’s stylish pad than a hotel room. The air had that fresh, just-cleaned scent mixed with a hint of eucalyptus from the nearby gardens, and the high ceilings made the whole place breathe easy, you know?

What really sold me was how they’ve turned this into a proper designer residence – I mean, it’s got that modern edge with sleek kitchen fittings (think matte black appliances and a coffee machine that actually works without fuss) and those big windows overlooking the leafy street, letting in the morning light that filters through the plane trees. The bedrooms are generous, each with plush bedding that doesn’t skimp on comfort – one even has a little balcony where I sipped my flat white watching the neighborhood wake up, hearing the distant hum of trams on Brunswick Street. It’s perfect for families or a group of friends; we spread out, cooked up some brekkie using the local produce from the Queen Vic Market (just a 15-minute stroll away), and it felt authentic, like living in Carlton rather than visiting. There’s Wi-Fi that’s reliably fast – no dropouts during my Zoom calls – and the bathroom’s got those rain showers that make you linger a bit too long. Well, sort of a nitpick: the place is on a residential street, so it’s peaceful at night, but if you’re a light sleeper, the occasional early-morning delivery truck might nudge you awake. Still, compared to the noise in busier spots like Fitzroy, it’s a win. And timing-wise, book in spring if you can – the jacarandas are blooming everywhere, turning the area into this purple wonderland.

Look, if you’re after a four-star spot with a solid 9 rating that doesn’t feel cookie-cutter, this is it. It’s not about flashy amenities; it’s the real-deal Carlton vibe – grab gelato at Pidapipo on Lygon after dark, wander to the Melbourne Museum for a culture hit, or just chill in the residence’s cozy living area with its textured rugs and arty prints on the walls. I left feeling like I’d actually experienced Melbourne’s laid-back side, not just passed through. Worth every penny, especially if you’re traveling with others and want space to unwind without the hotel hustle.

Good overall experience in a nice comfortable and modern interior in a great location Fantastic location and a nice modern comfortable interior

What could be improved: Plumbing noise from the adjoining house at nighttime which was very audible upstairs from the bedroom
Recycling bin full to overflowing which I had to tidy up upon arrival, was told that someone would come and empty it but they never did
Very limited tea, coffee and sugar so I had to go out and buy some
Cleaners missed a few things from the previous tenants

What could be improved: Aircon is very noisy downstairs, that affects one of the bedrooms. Also the lock of the double doors is very hard to use
