Hotel Description
I remember stepping off the tram at the corner of Flinders and Queen Street – you know, right in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD – and weaving through that classic laneway chaos to find the Flinders Lane Superior Studio Apartment. It’s tucked away in this historic building at 238 Flinders Lane, unit 309, and honestly, the first thing that hit me was how it felt like stumbling into one of those hidden gems that locals rave about but tourists might miss if they’re not paying attention. The entrance is unassuming – no flashy lobby, just a secure buzzer system that works like a charm, even late at night when I arrived after a delayed flight from Sydney. Check-in was a breeze; they email you the codes ahead of time, so no waiting around, which is a godsend in a city where everything moves at warp speed. But fair warning, if you’re driving, parking’s a bit of a hassle – spots are scarce and pricey in the CBD, so I ditched the car at a nearby Wilson lot on Russell Street and walked the two blocks. The elevator’s one of those old-school ones that creaks a little, adding to the character, I suppose.
Once inside the studio, it sort of wraps you up in that perfect mix of modern comfort and Melbourne grit – exposed brick walls (a nod to the laneway’s industrial past), plush bedding that actually lets you sink in after a day of exploring, and a kitchenette that’s surprisingly well-stocked with basics like a Nespresso machine and decent cookware. I mean, it’s not huge, but for a 4-star spot with an 8.9 rating, it punches above its weight – think high ceilings, big windows overlooking the bustle below, and a bathroom with rain shower that washes away the city’s humidity. Sensory-wise, there’s that faint hum of trams rattling by on Flinders Street, which might bug light sleepers (earplugs helped me), but during quieter hours, like early mornings, you catch the aroma of fresh coffee drifting up from cafes on Degraves Street just a stone’s throw away. I loved how it’s smack in the middle of the action – Hosier Lane’s street art is literally around the corner for your Instagram fix, Federation Square’s events are a five-minute stroll, and you’re steps from the Yarra River for those sunset walks. Well, except in peak summer when the crowds swarm – it gets noisy with buskers and tourists, but that’s Melbourne for you, right? The air-con kept things cool, though, and the free Wi-Fi was speedy enough for streaming Aussie Rules footy highlights.
All in all, if you’re after an authentic slice of inner-city living without the hotel chain sterility, this place nails it. It’s ideal for solo travelers or couples who want to cook up some market finds from Queen Vic (a quick tram ride away) or just flop after hitting bars on nearby Bourke Street. Sure, it could use a few more power outlets – I had to juggle charging my phone and laptop – but at that price point, it’s a steal for the location. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in autumn when the laneways are less hectic and you can really soak in the vibe. You know what? It made me feel like a local, sipping flat whites and people-watching from the window – that’s the magic of it.

Incredible location, right in the middle or the CBD with plenty of great resturants and bars close by, but the room is still super quiet. Lovely old apartment, but very well maintained room and facilities.

Close proximity to CBD restaurants cafes and public transport
Jenni from Australia (9/10)
Location was amazing for enjoying Melb CBD. Despite proximity to trams and trains and human traffic, the apartment was quiet with double glazed windows for a great sleep. The windows could be opened for fresh air and the heaters were very efficient on chilly mornings.
Everything we needed, including a tea pot, was there and we were very comfortable.Prager from Australia (9/10)
Fabulous location, beautiful building, super quiet, well equipped and a comfortable size
