Glamorous Southbank home#MSQ14 Overview

You know, I stumbled upon the Glamorous Southbank home#MSQ14 during a quick getaway to Melbourne last spring, and honestly, it felt like I’d scored a hidden gem right in the thick of things. Tucked away on 18 Hoff Boulevard in Southbank, it’s just a stone’s throw from the Yarra River promenade – you can literally wander out and hit those bustling riverside paths where locals jog in the mornings or grab gelato from the trucks near South Wharf. I mean, arriving there after a long flight, the check-in was a breeze; no stuffy front desk, just a friendly host who handed over the keys with a quick rundown of the best nearby coffee spots (try the little cafe on Clarendon Street if you’re into flat whites that don’t mess around). The place itself has this sleek, apartment-vibe going on – think polished concrete floors that feel cool underfoot on a warm day, and big windows letting in that golden Aussie light. But fair warning, parking’s a bit of a hassle if you’re driving; street spots fill up fast, especially around event nights at the nearby MCEC convention center, so I ended up using the paid garage a block over, which wasn’t too bad at about 20 bucks a night.

What really sold me, though, was how it balanced that glamorous edge with real comfort – it’s rated a solid 8 for a reason, you know? The rooms (well, more like suites) come with these plush king beds that swallow you up after a day exploring, and there’s a full kitchen setup where I whipped up brekkie using stuff from the Queen Victoria Market – just a tram ride away on the 96 line, super easy. Sensory-wise, it’s got that fresh linen smell mixed with a hint of eucalyptus from the bathroom amenities, and the balcony views? Stunning over the river, especially at dusk when the city lights start twinkling and you hear the faint hum of ferries chugging along. It’s not without its quirks, mind you – the AC can be a tad noisy if you’re a light sleeper, and during peak tourist season like summer, the area buzzes with crowds from Crown Casino across the way, so noise seeps in if windows are open. But overall, it felt lived-in and authentic, not some sterile chain hotel; I even caught myself lingering over coffee on the couch, watching joggers below, thinking this is how Melbourne locals probably unwind.

If you’re heading to Melbourne and want something that feels like a stylish home base without breaking the bank – it’s 4-star but punches above with the location perks – I’d say book it, especially for couples or small groups. You get that Southbank energy, easy access to Flinders Street Station for day trips to the laneways or St. Kilda Beach, and honestly, it’s the kind of spot where you leave feeling like you’ve actually experienced the city, not just passed through. Just pack earplugs if you’re there during a big event weekend, and you’ll be golden.

  • A great central Melbourne apartment – David from Australia – 12 May 2025 (8/10)

This was a great location and a magnificent launching pad to discover Melbourne, its wonderful wining and dining opportunities at all budgets, and its quick access to lots of public transport options.

The apartment itself was a good size for our needs with a separate bedroom, a well presented kitchen with all conveniences that we needed and a pretty easy communication channel with the owner to collect keys. Despite the significant amount of construction happening nearby the double glazed windows kept it quiet inside. The bathr was an appropriate size for the size of the apartment with spaces to hang towels and a good sized shower with great water pressure.

A particularly pleasant surprise was the complimentary airport chauffeur transport from the airport as part of our accommodation package.

What could be improved: The bed was a little soft for our liking and sagged towards the middle but we managed ok. Some repairs are needed to the windows (which can't open), but this already known to the owner. The toilet flushing mechanism is coming off the tiles. However, the repair issues didn't detract from our stay.
