Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon the Gorgeous 2B Docklands apt – that’s the full name, with that quirky #MQ37 tag like it’s straight out of some trendy listing – during a quick getaway to Melbourne last spring, and honestly, it kind of blew me away from the moment I stepped off the tram at Flinders Street. I’d been wandering around the CBD, dodging the usual crowds near Federation Square, and hopped on the free City Circle tram to get over to Docklands. The building at 628 Flinders Street isn’t one of those flashy high-rises that scream luxury; it’s more understated, tucked right where the Yarra River bends and the city starts to feel a bit more open and breezy. Check-in was a breeze – no front desk hassle, just a key code sent via app, which was perfect after a long flight. I mean, who wants to deal with lines when you’re jet-lagged? Stepping into the elevator and shooting up to level 37, though – that was the real kicker. The doors opened to this sleek two-bedroom apartment that felt lived-in but spotless, with floor-to-ceiling windows framing what has to be one of the best views in Melbourne. We’re talking panoramic shots of the Bolte Bridge glowing at dusk, the twinkling lights of South Wharf below, and even a glimpse of the Crown Casino if you squint. I spent my first evening just parked on the balcony with a coffee, listening to the faint hum of ferries on the river – it’s that kind of peaceful chaos, you know?
What really sets this place apart, though, is how it nails that balance between apartment vibes and hotel comforts without trying too hard. The kitchen’s fully stocked – think shiny appliances and even a Nespresso machine that saved me from overpriced cafe runs – and the bedrooms are cozy, with those plush beds that make you forget you’re in a bustling spot like Docklands. I appreciated the little touches, like fresh towels that smelled faintly of eucalyptus (or maybe that was just the nearby parks rubbing off), and the living area had this massive TV that was great for crashing after a day exploring. Parking’s a bit of a squeeze down there on Flinders – it’s underground and secure, but during peak hours when everyone’s heading to events at the Marvel Stadium (which is literally a stone’s throw away), it can get tight, so I’d suggest arriving early or using the trams. Noise-wise, it’s surprisingly quiet up on 37; sure, you might hear the occasional tram rattle or distant traffic from the West Gate Freeway, but nothing that kept me up – well, except for that one night when the wind howled off the bay during a spring storm. And let’s be real, the bathroom’s modern with a rain shower that feels indulgent, but the water pressure could be a tad stronger if you’re picky about that sort of thing. Still, for a 4-star spot with a 9.4 rating, it’s got that authentic Melbourne edge – close enough to hop over to the Queen Victoria Market for fresh produce on weekends, or stroll along the promenade for those sunset vibes that locals rave about.
All in all, if you’re heading to Melbourne and want something that feels like a home base with killer views – especially in the quieter shoulder seasons like autumn when Docklands isn’t swamped with tourists – this apartment is a gem. It’s not perfect, but that’s what makes it real; I’d book it again in a heartbeat for the way it lets you soak in the city’s rhythm without the stuffiness of a big hotel chain. Trust me, waking up to that skyline beats any postcard.
