Hotel Description

I remember pulling up to the Gorgeous 2bed 2bath apartment on Haig Street in Southbank – you know, that little pocket just off St Kilda Road where the Yarra River bends and everything feels a bit more alive. It was one of those humid Melbourne afternoons in summer, and honestly, after dodging the trams on Clarendon Street, finding parking right out front was a godsend (though fair warning, spots can get snatched up quick during peak hours when everyone’s heading to Crown Casino). The building’s got that modern, understated vibe – not flashy like some of the high-rises nearby, but solid and welcoming. Check-in was a breeze; it’s self-service with a key code they email you ahead, which is perfect if you’re jet-lagged or just not in the mood for chit-chat. Stepping inside, I was hit with this fresh, citrusy scent from whatever cleaner they use – subtle, not overpowering – and the place just opened up into this bright, airy living space. The views from the balcony overlook the river glimpses and those twinkling lights from the Southbank promenade at night; it’s the kind of spot where you can hear the faint hum of the city without it being overwhelming, especially if you time your stay for mid-week when things quiet down after 10 PM.

What really sold me on this apartment – I mean, it’s billed as a 4-star setup with a near-perfect 9.8 rating, and yeah, it lives up to that – is how it feels like a proper home away from home, not some sterile hotel room. The two bedrooms are generously sized, with those plush queen beds that sink just right (one has an en-suite bath with a rain shower that honestly made mornings a treat), and the second bathroom’s got a deep tub for soaking off the day’s wanderings. The kitchen’s fully kitted out – we’re talking a Nespresso machine, a decent oven, even herbs in the fridge if you fancy whipping up brekkie – which was clutch for me since I grabbed fresh produce from the Queen Victoria Market and cooked up a storm one night. It’s all modern and clean, with wooden floors that don’t creak and big windows letting in that southern light, but here’s a small heads-up: the AC can be a tad noisy on high, so if you’re a light sleeper like me, keep it on low or crack a window during cooler evenings. Location-wise, you’re literally a five-minute stroll to Crown for a flutter or a show – or hop over to the NGV art gallery if that’s more your speed – and there’s this great little cafe on Coventry Street nearby for killer flat whites. Oh, and if you’re into jogging, the river paths are right there, though watch for cyclists in the mornings.

All in all, if you’re heading to Melbourne and want something that balances comfort with that inner-city buzz without breaking the bank, this place is a winner. It’s ideal for couples or small families – we fit four comfortably – and sort of bridges that gap between touristy spots and real local living. Sure, Southbank can get crowded during events like the Australian Open, with a bit more street noise filtering up, but that’s Melbourne for you; it adds to the energy. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially for the value and those sunset views over the water. If you’re booking, aim for spring or autumn when the weather’s milder – trust me, it’ll make those balcony evenings even sweeter.

    Location to Southbank precinct

  • Great apartment-clean, well equipped and well located – Deb from Australia – 30 June 2025 (10/10)

This is a clean, well appointed and well located (for cbd, casino and Exhibition Center) apartment. For our purposes of attending a conference at the Exhibition Building it was perfect. The Host was a good communicator.

What could be improved: Nothing really-however it is good to know that Haig Rd (front of the apartment) is quite a dark street at night, and the road to access the parking (at the back of the building) is a little awkward to access. Make sure to ask the host for detailed instructions on the most efficient way to access the keys then the parking. On the dark rainy night we accessed the keys, I wish I had my glasses as it was a little tricky to see the combination. These are very minor issues-but will make access to the building easier.
If you are big people, or have big suitcases, this may not be the apartment for you. The apartment is perfectly compact!
