What really won me over, though, was the room – I had one facing Victoria Harbour, and waking up to that view of the water with boats bobbing gently, well, it beats staring at a brick wall any day. The bed was plush, the kind that swallows you up after a long day wandering, and there’s a little kitchenette that’s actually useful – stocked with decent coffee pods and a mini-fridge that doesn’t hum annoyingly all night. You can hear the occasional tram rumble by on Waterfront Way, but it’s not intrusive; more like white noise that reminds you you’re in the thick of it without the chaos of the CBD. Speaking of which, it’s a quick 10-minute walk to Marvel Stadium if you’re catching a footy game or concert – I timed it once after grabbing fish and chips from one of those casual spots on the promenade. The pool area is a hidden gem, especially on warmer days; it’s outdoors but sheltered, with loungers that overlook the docks, and the water’s always that perfect tepid temperature. Oh, and parking – if you’re driving, they’ve got secure spots underground, but book ahead because it fills up during events at the stadium. One minor gripe: the Wi-Fi can lag a tad in the evenings when everyone’s streaming, but nothing a quick reset didn’t fix.

All in all, if you’re looking for a spot that’s got that urban escape feel without being isolated – you know, close enough to stroll over to South Wharf for some riverside dining or even cycle along the paths to the city – this place nails it.
