First Impressions
Walking into Hotel Collins on Collins Street, you immediately get that “this is exactly where I want to be” feeling. The lobby has this understated elegance that doesn’t try too hard — you know what I mean? It’s polished without being stuffy, and the staff actually seem genuinely happy to see you rather than just going through the motions. I honestly wasn’t expecting much from a four-star place in the heart of Melbourne, but this spot surprised me in the best way.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s the thing about being right on Collins Street — you’re literally in the middle of everything that makes Melbourne worth visiting. I mean, you can walk to the Royal Botanic Gardens in about ten minutes, and Federation Square is practically next door. The shopping along Collins is fantastic (hello, Block Arcade), and honestly, some of the city’s best coffee is within a two-block radius. What really sold me though was how easy it is to catch trams from right outside — you can get anywhere in the city without dealing with parking or expensive Ubers.
The Room Experience
My room was on the eighth floor with a view that actually made me pause unpacking for a moment. The windows are floor-to-ceiling, so you get this sweeping look at the city that changes throughout the day — morning light hitting the Yarra, evening glow on the skyscrapers. The bed was properly comfortable (not just hotel-marketing comfortable), and I appreciated the little touches like decent lighting for reading and enough power outlets that I didn’t have to unplug the lamp to charge my phone. The bathroom was compact but well-designed, with a shower that had actual water pressure.
Dining and Daily Rhythms
The ground-floor restaurant serves breakfast that goes well beyond the usual hotel spread — they do this amazing smashed avocado with dukkah that honestly rivals what you’d get at Melbourne’s trendy brunch spots. I found myself lingering over coffee there most mornings, watching the Collins Street foot traffic pick up as the city woke up. For other meals, you’re spoiled for choice in the neighborhood, but it’s nice knowing you can grab a decent bite without leaving the building when you’re feeling lazy.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it balances being right in the thick of things without feeling chaotic. The soundproofing is excellent — even though you’re on one of Melbourne’s busiest streets, you’ll sleep well. The service feels personal rather than corporate, and there’s this sense that they actually want you to enjoy Melbourne rather than just tolerate your stay. Couples seem to particularly love it here (and I can see why — there’s something romantic about those city views), but honestly, whether you’re here for business or exploring, it just works. It’s one of those places where everything feels effortless, which is exactly what you want when you’re trying to enjoy a new city.

What Our Guests Say
There were no meals from the hotel. But around it are great restos and cafes. Plus the room had its own kitchen, so, one could cook anything that wasn’t available from the many interesting eats.
The price, location and the room was very clean and spacious
Excellent location and facilities. Staff were very accommodating and friendly.
I was upgraded to a 2-bedroom apartment by receptionist as I've got mobility issues and forgot to request no stairs. She went beyond my expectations in so far as giving me the upgrade, so I didn't have to climb stairs. Location for me was perfect for my stay, close to public transport and if I was going, the theatres are right next door. Will stay again in the future.
Good sized apartment, comfortable bed with great pillows.
