Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon the ibis Styles Melbourne Airport almost by accident last year when my flight out of Tullamarine got delayed overnight – talk about a lifesaver. It’s tucked right there on Grants Road, literally a stone’s throw from the terminals (I mean, you can walk it in under 10 minutes if you’re not lugging a ton of bags), which is brilliant if you’re catching an early bird to Sydney or dealing with those pesky international connections. Honestly, pulling up after a red-eye from Perth, the place felt like a breath of fresh air – not your typical sterile airport hotel vibe. The lobby’s got this playful, modern twist with pops of color and quirky aviation-themed art on the walls, and there’s always that faint hum of planes taking off in the background, but it’s more exciting than annoying, especially if you’re a bit of an avgeek like me. Check-in was a breeze, even at 2 a.m.; the staff were chatty Aussies who sorted me out with a room key and a tip on where to grab a late-night flat white from the 24-hour café nearby – none of that robotic efficiency, just genuine helpfulness.
What really won me over, though, was how they nailed the practical stuff without making a big fuss about it. The rooms are compact but clever – think soft, king-sized beds that actually let you sleep through the occasional jet roar (earplugs in the drawer if you need ’em), and those little touches like USB ports everywhere and blackout curtains that block out the runway lights. I stayed in one overlooking the tarmac, and watching the planes taxi by at dawn with a coffee in hand was oddly meditative, you know? Breakfast is included and solid – fresh pastries, eggs any way you like, and decent coffee that doesn’t taste like airport sludge – but it can get crowded around 7 a.m. when everyone’s rushing for flights, so hit it early or late. There’s a gym if you want to sweat out the travel funk, and parking’s straightforward; they have spots right out front, cheaper than the long-term airport lots if you’re driving in from the Calder Freeway. Oh, and if you’re into exploring, it’s not totally isolated – a quick shuttle or Uber gets you to Essendon Fields for some outlet shopping or even into the city if you’ve got a layover (though traffic on the Tullamarine Freeway can be a nightmare during peak hours, fair warning).
All in all, if you’re flying in or out of Melbourne and don’t want the hassle of trekking to the CBD – which, let’s be real, can add an hour in rush hour – this place is a no-brainer. It’s got that 4-star polish without feeling pretentious, and with an 8.5 rating, it’s clear others agree. Sure, the walls are a tad thin (I heard my neighbor’s alarm once), and it’s not exactly a resort getaway, but for what it is – a stylish pit stop that smells like fresh linen and opportunity – I’d book it again in a heartbeat. Well, especially in summer when the airport’s buzzing with holiday crowds; off-peak, it’s even quieter and a steal.

As my first stay in Australia I was very happy to be in such a nice place. For an airport hotel I didn’t expect all that much but it was very clean with everything I could need. The staff were very friendly and we had a couple of laughs at check-in. Breakkie was amazing, probably right up there with the best hotel breakkies I’ve had.

The location of this hotel is excellent. We got up, walked a couple of hundred metres and checked in to our early morning flight.
I also loved the automated check-in / out. No lines, just easy. I actually really liked the lounge downstairs too. After finishing work, driving to Melbourne and parking the car, it was a nice place to sit and officially start our holiday.

The hotel is located near T4 of the airport. It's great for an overnight stay if you have a early flight. The property is well maintained and has a great restaurant and bar. The buffet breakfast hit the spot.
