In The Brick Spa And Hotel Overview
I remember pulling up to In The Brick Spa And Hotel on Wellington Street in St Kilda – you know, that vibrant pocket of Melbourne where the beach vibes meet a bit of gritty urban edge. It’s tucked away just off the main drag, so if you’re driving in from the city center, watch out for those trams rattling down Acland Street; they can sneak up on you during rush hour. Honestly, finding parking was a minor hassle – street spots are competitive, especially on weekends when everyone’s flocking to the esplanade for sunset strolls or hitting up Luna Park for that nostalgic thrill. But once I stepped inside, the place had this warm, almost industrial charm with its exposed brick walls (hence the name, I suppose) that felt like a nod to Melbourne’s old warehouse conversions. Check-in was a breeze; the staff were chatty locals who tipped me off about the best nearby spots for brekkie – like that little cafe on Carlisle Street with killer flat whites and avo toast that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. My room? It was on the smaller side for a 4-star, but spotless, with these plush linens that smelled faintly of eucalyptus – a nice touch that made me feel like I’d escaped the city’s hustle without actually leaving it.
What really sold me, though, was the spa – oh man, it’s not some over-the-top luxury thing, but a cozy setup with treatments that draw on local botanicals, like a salt scrub using stuff from the nearby bay. I booked a massage after a long day wandering the St Kilda Botanical Gardens (just a 10-minute walk away, by the way, and totally underrated for its quiet paths amid the gum trees), and it melted away the jet lag like nothing else. The hotel’s got this rooftop terrace too, where you can sip a craft beer from a Victorian brewery while catching glimpses of Port Phillip Bay – especially magical at dusk when the sea breeze kicks in and drowns out the faint hum of traffic below. Rooms come with those little extras travelers appreciate, like decent Wi-Fi that doesn’t glitch during video calls home, and a mini-fridge stocked with organic snacks instead of the usual overpriced junk. That said, if you’re a light sleeper, note that Wellington Street can get a tad noisy on Friday nights with the pub crowds spilling out from Fitzroy Street – earplugs helped, but it’s part of the area’s lively pulse, you know? I mean, St Kilda isn’t for those seeking total silence; it’s for soaking in Melbourne’s eclectic scene, from street art to penguin spotting at the pier come evening.
All in all, if you’re after a solid 8.8-rated stay that’s more authentic than flashy – think couples on a romantic getaway or solo explorers wanting easy access to the beach without the tourist trap feel – this place delivers. It’s not perfect; the breakfast buffet could use more variety beyond the standard continental spread, and rates spike in summer when the festivals hit (hello, St Kilda Festival chaos). But wandering out to grab fish and chips from a hole-in-the-wall on Acland and returning to that brick-walled haven? Worth it every time. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-season when it’s quieter and you can really unwind.

Great location and friendly staff. Was running late having driven from Sydney to Melbourne, the staff called me on my phone to give me instructions on how to access the building and room after hours.

My husband and I stayed for one night at this hotel. The staff were absolutely lovely and welcoming. This place had this air of calmness. The room was large, clean and comfortable..it is within walking distance to the bustling st Kilda beach. I would highly recommend it and would also love to have a massage there next time.
