Ivanhoe Apartments Overview
You know, I stumbled upon Ivanhoe Apartments during a quick getaway to Melbourne last spring, and honestly, it felt like hitting the jackpot in a suburb that’s often overlooked by tourists chasing the CBD buzz. Tucked away on Upper Heidelberg Road in Ivanhoe – that’s about a 20-minute drive northeast from the city center if traffic’s behaving – it’s in this leafy pocket where the houses have those big, rambling gardens and the air smells faintly of eucalyptus from the nearby Yarra River trails. I pulled up around midday, and parking was a breeze; they’ve got undercover spots right out front, which is a godsend because, well, Melbourne weather can turn on you in an instant. Check-in was low-key – no fuss, just a friendly chat with the staff who handed over the keys and pointed out the best local coffee spot down on Ivanhoe’s main strip. The building itself has that modern apartment vibe, not too flashy, with clean lines and big windows that let in heaps of natural light. My room – actually, it was more like a self-contained flat – had this cozy balcony overlooking the road, and at night, the distant hum of cars was surprisingly soothing, like white noise, though if you’re a light sleeper, you might notice the occasional truck rumbling by early mornings.
What really sold me on the place was how it nailed that home-away-from-home feel without skimping on the little luxuries. The apartments are spacious, with full kitchens stocked with decent appliances – I whipped up a brekkie using stuff from the nearby Coles on Burgundy Street, which is just a short walk away. The beds are plush, the kind that make you sink in after a day exploring, and there’s free Wi-Fi that’s actually reliable, not the spotty kind you get in some spots. I mean, it’s rated a solid 9 for a reason; everything’s spotless, and the pool area out back is a hidden gem – heated, too, which came in handy during that chilly spell we had. Being in Ivanhoe means you’re close to some underrated gems: hop on a bike (they’ve got rentals nearby) and you’re minutes from the Yarra Bend Park trails, where the birdsong drowns out everything else, or swing by the Austin Hospital precinct if you need anything medical – sort of practical if you’re traveling with family. Oh, and don’t get me started on the eateries; there’s this little Italian joint on Upper Heidelberg that does pasta to die for, and it’s walking distance. One minor gripe? The road can get busy during peak hours, so if you’re driving into the city, time it right to avoid the crawl – but hey, that’s suburb life for you.
All in all, if you’re after a 4-star stay that’s more authentic Melbourne than tourist trap, Ivanhoe Apartments is where it’s at. It’s perfect for families or solo travelers who want space to spread out, maybe cook a meal, and dip into the local scene without the inner-city chaos. I left feeling recharged, and yeah, I’d book again in a heartbeat – especially in autumn when the leaves turn and the area’s at its prettiest. Just pack light; the elevators are efficient, but stairs might test you after a big shop at the Ivanhoe markets on weekends.

The apartment had all of the modern conveniences. Free parking in a designated spot was a plus. Only 20-30 minutes from the city by Uber (depending on traffic) and also very easy to get one. Lovely suburb (Ivanhoe) with some great restaurant choices.

This amazing apartment was fully beyond my expectation. The top view at 11th floor could easily cover the green Mel suburban and the Dandenong Mountain. In and Out was absolutely secure and convenient. Woolworths 10 min drive and all necessary items could be bought for daily life. Mr. Rosemarie was very nice and helpful. The building has an outdoor pool, where u could enjoy skyline of city.

Property is on the 11th floor, serviced by a very fast lift. It was well presented and is a comfortable walk to Heidelberg Station (about 600m walk) with a 35 minute train trip into the CBD. The connection to the airport via Uber/taxi is about 35-40 minutes. Our host met us at the apartments and was very helpful in settling us in and showing us the layout of the apartments. Recommend this property for anyone visiting Melbourne but does not want to stay in the City but with the convenience of a quick train service close by.

Great location for our needs, walking distance to the Ivanhoe shopping and restaurant strip and some lovely restaurants just across the road. The apartment was great for myself and husband and tonnage son on the futon. Parking was for useful as vehicle was useful to get us to where we needed to go within 10 min without having to rely on public transport. Although I believe easy access to transport from apartment.
