Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon the Lancemore Crossley St. while wandering through Melbourne’s CBD last spring – right there on Little Bourke Street, smack in the middle of that vibrant strip where Chinatown spills into the theater district. It’s at 51 Little Bourke, you can’t miss it; the entrance is tucked between those old Victorian facades that make the whole area feel like a living postcard. I mean, I arrived after a long flight, lugging my bags from Flinders Street Station – which is just a 10-minute stroll away, by the way – and honestly, the check-in was a breeze. No fuss, just a friendly chat with the staff who pointed out the best coffee spot down the road on Russell Street. Parking’s a bit of a hassle if you’re driving in, though; it’s all metered spots or pricey garages nearby, so I’d recommend ditching the car and embracing the trams that rattle past every few minutes.

What really hooked me was how the place balances that sleek, five-star polish with a sort of intimate, boutique vibe – like it’s been designed for people who actually want to feel the pulse of the city without the overwhelming bustle. The rooms? Oh man, mine had these massive windows overlooking the laneways below, and the bed was one of those plush numbers that swallows you whole after a day exploring. (Pro tip: ask for a higher floor if you’re a light sleeper; Little Bourke can get noisy with the after-theater crowds spilling out from Her Majesty’s or the Comedy Theatre until around midnight, especially on weekends.) There’s a rooftop terrace up top that’s perfect for sunset drinks – I spent an evening there sipping a local pinot, chatting with some regulars who clued me in on hidden gems like the graffiti-covered Hosier Lane, just a block over. The bathroom smelled faintly of eucalyptus from their fancy toiletries, and breakfast in the mornings? Freshly baked pastries and strong flat whites that rival anything on Degraves Street. Well, it’s not flawless – the Wi-Fi dipped a couple times during peak hours, but nothing a quick reset couldn’t fix – but overall, it felt authentic, you know? Like staying in a stylish friend’s apartment rather than some sterile chain.

If you’re heading to Melbourne for the arts scene or just to soak up that laneway culture – think dumplings at Shanghai Street Dumpling or a show at the Princess Theatre, both literally steps away – this spot’s a winner with its 8.9 rating that feels well-earned. It’s pricier in peak season like during the Australian Open in January, when the whole CBD buzzes, but off-peak, it’s a steal for the luxury. Honestly, I’d go back in a heartbeat; it made my trip feel less like tourism and more like living the Melbourne life, textures and all – the cool marble lobby floors underfoot, the distant tram bells at dawn. If that’s your vibe, book it; you won’t regret it.

The vibe of this hotel is great. Location is excellent if you want to be in the heart of the CBD (central business district) but be warned the area gets very crowded. That said, the hotel itself was great. The staff was super nice and accommodating. The bed was comfortable, room was super clean. They’ll validate parking for you for $25 AUD per day if you need, and it’s a block over from the hotel so pretty convenient. The chandelier in the lobby is everything! Kind of hip vibe. Everything is accessible. There are hundreds if not thousands of restaurant bars and even 24 hr minimarts within the 5 block radius of the hotel alone. Also has 24 hr reception which is great and less common in Australia than you’d think. Genuinely really happy with our stay here.
