Hotel Description
I remember pulling up to 1 Lawson Grove in South Yarra on a drizzly Melbourne afternoon – you know, one of those days where the sky can’t make up its mind – and thinking, wow, this spot’s got that perfect mix of quiet suburb vibe and easy access to the buzz. South Yarra’s one of those neighborhoods that feels upscale without trying too hard, tucked just off Toorak Road where you’ve got all those fancy boutiques and cafes spilling out onto the sidewalks. The place itself is this spacious one-bedroom apartment – honestly, it lives up to the “large and light-filled” name right from the moment you step in. The check-in was a breeze; it’s self-contained with a key code system, no fussing with a front desk, which is great if you’re jet-lagged and just want to flop. I opened the door, and bam – floor-to-ceiling windows flooding the living room with natural light, even on a gray day, and those city views stretching out toward the skyline. You can spot the spires of the CBD from the balcony, especially at dusk when the lights start twinkling. It’s not some sterile hotel room; it feels lived-in, with soft carpets underfoot and a kitchen that’s stocked enough for whipping up a quick brekkie – though, fair warning, the stove’s a bit finicky if you’re not used to gas burners.
What really sold me on this place was how it balances comfort with that real Melbourne flavor. Mornings here are my favorite – you’d wake up to the distant hum of trams rattling down Chapel Street, just a five-minute stroll away, and the smell of fresh coffee wafting up from the little espresso bars on Toorak. I mean, you’re basically next door to the Prahran Market if you fancy grabbing some local produce, or you could wander over to the Yarra River paths for a jog – it’s all so walkable, which is a lifesaver in a city where parking’s a nightmare (street spots are available but get snapped up quick during peak hours). The bedroom’s huge, with a king bed that swallows you up, and there’s decent Wi-Fi for streaming or working remotely – though it did glitch once during a rainstorm, nothing major. It’s rated 8.1 for a reason; not perfect, like the bathroom could use a fresh coat of paint, but it’s clean and thoughtful, with extras like a washer-dryer that saved me on a longer stay. And noise-wise? Surprisingly peaceful at night, even with the occasional partygoer stumbling home from the bars – South Yarra gets lively on weekends, but this grove is set back enough to muffle it.
Look, if you’re heading to Melbourne and want something more than a cookie-cutter hotel, this apartment’s a gem, especially for couples or solo travelers craving space without the hefty price tag of the CBD spots. It’s four stars, sure, but it punches above that with the views and location – think summer festivals at the Botanical Gardens nearby, or quiet winter evenings cozied up watching the city glow. I stayed a week and left wishing for more time; it’s the kind of place that makes you feel like a local, not just a visitor. Worth booking if you’re after that authentic South Yarra charm.

We loved the location and the apartment is so cosy, comfortable and has a lovely vibe to it.
The bed is super comfy too so we both slept very well.
Air conditioning works well, the views at night are lovely and it's just an overall comfortable place to stay.
Stairs didn't bother us at all and we love the vintage feel to it being an older building.

The cafe at the base of the building was great. It was having some renovations so I wasn't able to use it the whole stay. The decor of the apartment was quite appealing
