Hotel Description
I remember pulling up to Le Chic in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD – you know, right off Spencer Street, just a stone’s throw from Southern Cross Station. I’d hopped off the SkyBus from the airport, and honestly, it was a relief not having to drag my bags far in that drizzly Melbourne weather we all know too well. The building’s got this sleek, modern facade that blends right in with the high-rises around it, but without feeling too flashy – sort of like those understated apartments you see popping up near Docklands. Check-in was a breeze; the host met me downstairs with a key code (no fussing with a front desk, which is perfect if you’re arriving late after a show at the nearby Marvel Stadium). And get this – they actually have dedicated parking spots, which is a godsend in the CBD where circling for a space can eat up half your afternoon. I mean, I parked my rental right there and didn’t think twice about it for the whole stay.
Stepping inside the two-bedroom setup (yeah, it sleeps four comfortably with those plush queen beds), it felt more like a stylish city pad than a hotel room – you know what I mean? The living area had these big windows overlooking the tram lines on Collins Street, and in the mornings, you’d catch the aroma of fresh coffee wafting up from the cafes below, like that little spot on Little Bourke with the killer flat whites. The kitchen was fully kitted out – fridge, microwave, even a dishwasher – so I whipped up a quick brekkie from goodies I grabbed at Queen Victoria Market, which is just a 15-minute stroll away. Beds were super comfy, with those crisp white linens that make you sink right in after a day exploring, though I will say, if you’re a light sleeper, the occasional tram rumble or weekend buzz from the bars on Flinders Lane might nudge you awake around midnight (nothing earplugs couldn’t fix, well, at least for me). The bathroom’s got decent water pressure and those fluffy towels that don’t feel like they’ve been through a thousand washes, and there’s even a washer-dryer combo – handy for longer trips when you’re dodging Melbourne’s four-seasons-in-one-day vibe.
All in all, if you’re hitting Melbourne for a mix of work and play – maybe catching a game or wandering Federation Square – Le Chic’s a solid pick, especially for families or small groups who want space without breaking the bank. It’s rated an 8.8 for good reason; not perfect, but it nails that balance of chic comfort and practicality in a spot where everything’s walkable. I’d go back in a heartbeat, particularly in spring when the laneways are alive but not overwhelmingly crowded – just watch out for those peak footy seasons when Southern Cross gets packed.
