Luxury Living, Richmond
I remember pulling up to Luxury Living on David Street in Richmond last spring—honestly, it's one of those spots that feels tucked away but right in the thick of things, you know?
I remember pulling up to Luxury Living on David Street in Richmond last spring—honestly, it’s one of those spots that feels tucked away but right in the thick of things, you know? I was coming from the airport, dodging the usual Hoddle Street traffic, and there it was, this sleek four-star place with a facade that’s all modern glass and clean lines, not too flashy but classy enough to make you feel like you’ve upgraded without trying too hard. Check-in was a breeze—well, except for that one time the front desk guy was juggling a few calls, but he sorted me out with a smile and a quick chat about the best pho spots on Victoria Street nearby (pro tip: head to Pho Hung Vuong if you’re craving something authentic and spicy). The lobby has this subtle eucalyptus scent wafting around—probably from the fresh diffusers they use—and it’s got comfy leather armchairs where I plopped down with a complimentary coffee while waiting for my room. Parking’s a bit of a squeeze on the street, especially during footy season when everyone’s heading to the MCG just a 10-minute walk away, but they have a secure underground spot if you book ahead, which I did after learning my lesson the hard way once.
What really sold me on the place, though, was how it nails that balance between luxury and lived-in comfort—sort of like staying at a well-off mate’s apartment rather than some sterile hotel chain. My room on the third floor overlooked a quiet courtyard (ask for one facing away from David Street if you’re a light sleeper; the trams on Bridge Road can rumble a bit in the mornings). The bed was massive, with those crisp white sheets that feel like they’re ironed fresh every day, and the bathroom—oh man, the rain shower head is a game-changer after a long day exploring. I mean, I spent an embarrassing amount of time just standing under it, letting the hot water melt away the jet lag. They’ve got all the little touches travelers actually appreciate: fast Wi-Fi that doesn’t drop out mid-Zoom call, a mini-fridge stocked with local beers like Furphy (way better than the generic stuff), and even a Nespresso machine for that morning hit. Breakfast in the on-site cafe is solid—think avocado toast with poached eggs that are perfectly runny, though it’s not included in all rates, so check that if you’re on a budget. And get this, the rooftop terrace is a hidden gem in the evenings; I watched the sunset over the Yarra River from there one night, sipping a glass of local pinot—quiet and peaceful, especially mid-week when the city’s hustle dies down.
Look, if you’re heading to Melbourne and want somewhere that feels genuinely part of Richmond’s vibe—close enough to wander over to the trendy cafes on Church Street or catch a gig at the Corner Hotel without dealing with the CBD chaos—this is it. The 9.2 rating isn’t hype; it’s earned from real stays like mine, where the staff remembers your name and the place just works for both short trips and longer hauls. Sure, it might not be the cheapest option around (rates spike during the Australian Open, fair warning), but for the comfort and that insider feel of being in one of Melbourne’s coolest suburbs, it’s worth every cent. I’d go back in a heartbeat—actually, I already have plans to.
